Sashana What you are currently reading and what you think so far?

message 2: by Sans (new)

Sans I've been trying to read Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake but I keep forgetting the book at home and I've started something else by the time I get home, so I don't pick it up. Oy.

I'm starting Much Ado About Marriage today. A friend sent it to me (she couldn't wait to get rid of it, it's so bad apparently). I've been on a ridiculous/craptastic book streak lately, so I'm hoping this is a bad read!

message 3: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I'm reading The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins , it's so good. I stayed up until 1:30 last night reading it even though I had to get up at 6:30 this morning!

message 4: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I'm reading An Irresistible Bachelor by Jessica Bird and I think it's good so far. I like Jessica Bird. I'm also reading Ash by Malinda Lo and All I Want Is Everything (Gossip Girl, #3) by Cecily von Ziegesar . It's too early in the book to tell what I think of Ash, but All I Want is Everything is an easy read.

message 5: by Meg (new)

Meg (moonorchid) | 6 comments I'm reading Saturday by Ian McEwan . Someke parts I can follow real well and some others I go through a couple of pages thinking it's talking about one thing and then realize it's about something else entirely. Some parts are quite interesting and some I have to struggle to stay awake through. I am only half way into the book so I am reserving final judgement.

message 6: by Chelly (new)

Chelly (teamderek13) | 62 comments I'm reading 1984 and i LOVE it!!! for one, I can't believe that Orwell came up with this (a lot of which is scarey-accurate for places like North Korea, etc. in 1948!)...but this book is making me delve into the motives of actions and the functioning of the human brain, as well as love, survival, control...I love it

message 7: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I'm reading Last Sacrifice (Vampire Academy, #6) by Richelle Mead and I'm really enjoying it. There has been so many surprise so far and I'm not even in the middle yet. I think I'll start It's Not Summer Without You (Summer, #2) by Jenny Han tonight.

message 8: by ~~*Julie (new)

~~*Julie Kawalec-pearson (jewel77) | 43 comments I just finished an arc of lost souls..... Pretty good, it was a great mermaid story!

message 9: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 223 comments I'm reading The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, and it's pretty good so far. Reading pretty fast which is a nice change from the other book that I am reading.

°Õ³Üğç±ð Gökırmak (tugcenidasevin) | 157 comments I am reading Zeitoun - Dave Eggers for a groupread for January, started early and actually I enjoyed it very much so far... Looking forward to the end and the discussion part.

message 11: by Amanda B. (new)

Amanda B. I got The True Story of Hansel and Gretel by Louise Murphy for Christmas, I was so excited because I've been wanting to read it for months ever since I was looking for a book in another challenge and came across this one, but my library didn't have it. It is really good, I'm flying through it. It's based in WWII which brings some disturbing things up (but you can't totally avoid them)But the story is good and is a real page turner. I can't wait to finish it and hope for a somewhat happy ending.

This book is on my to read list, I had checked it out from the library on a player and tried to listen while traveling over Thanksgiving, but with the family in the car was having a hard time getting into it. I decided to wait until I can read it.

message 13: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I finished Hidden by Eve Kenin last night and loved it. Kind of sci-fi, post-apocolyptic. Really good book.

message 14: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I'm reading Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins I Am Number Four (Lorien Legacies, #1) by Pittacus Lore and Nightshade (Nightshade, #1) by Andrea Cremer . I'm actually enjoying all three of them even though they are severely different books. Anna and the French kiss is very funny and has that contemporary YA feel; I am Number Four is sci-fi and it's the first alien book that I've ever read so I'm setting the bar high for it; and Nightshade is entertaining but very confusing.

message 15: by Galla (new)

Galla | 110 comments I'm reading The Silver Metal Lover (Silver Metal Lover, #1) by Tanith Lee .

This book was published almost 30 years ago, so the world-building is definitely a departure from that in other fantasy books I've been reading lately.

I'm pretty early in, and Jane, the protagonist, is crying every few pages. I'm finding her... sympathetic, but a little hard to respect.

Also, I can honestly say this is the first YA novel I've ever read in which the mother asks her sixteen year-old daughter if she's masturbating regularly for her psychological health, since she hasn't found a lover yet. LOL

That's awkward lol. In Nightshade they keep asking Calla if she has lingerie and if she finds her future mate attractive. This from her mother, brother, and some creepy old lady.

I read that as a pick-it-for me in another group and although the beginning is slow, the ending was fantastic. Book #2, I liked but not as much as this one.

message 18: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I just finished Until Forever by Johanna Lindsey and didn't care for it. It was another pick-it-for-me from another group that wasn't a success.

message 19: by Galla (new)

Galla | 110 comments @Sashana: IKR? If my mom had ever said something like that to me when I was sixteen, I'm pretty sure I would have mentally rocked back and forth until the trauma went away. And yes, the Keepers in Nightshade are incredibly creepy! The Nightshade Keeper was bad enough; the Bane guy made my skin crawl.

@Carolyn: Finished the book tonight, and you're right, the ending is much better than the beginning! Very moving.

message 20: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. Finished another book that made me bawl, Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, #3) by Suzanne Collins , so sad the series is over.

Lacey | 61 comments Carolyn F. wrote: "Finished another book that made me bawl, Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, #3) by Suzanne Collins, so sad the series is over."

That book did make me cry, it was definately one of my favorite series. Have you read Matched (Matched #1) by Ally Condie yet? It's another book that takes place in the future and I loved it!!

I'm currently reading Shimmer (Wicked Woods #2) by Kailin Gow and I love it so far, I'm 3/4th's the way through and it definately has it's own flavor!

No I haven't, but I'll see if my library has it.

message 23: by Arthur (new)

Arthur (astra) I am 2/3 into The Subtle Knife
It is better than its predecessor Northern Lights
Don't know why, but I like it more :)

message 24: by Lacey (new)

Lacey | 61 comments Finished Shimmer (Wicked Woods #2) by Kailin Gow and now I'm reading Unearthly (Unearthly, #1) by Cynthia Hand Which I'm liking so far but I'm only a few chapters in.

I haven't read Matched yet but I'm definitely looking forward to it.

message 26: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I'm reading Undead and Unemployed (Undead, #2) by MaryJanice Davidson and it's okay. Not as good as the first. Also Personal Demons (Personal Demons, #1) by Lisa Desrochers I'm not too far but I definitely had a Twilight flashback when Luc walked into his school office on the first day of school. It was so Edward Cullen-esq. Let's see what happens.

message 27: by Liz (new)

Liz Fichera (lizfichera) I'm finishing up THE BOOK THIEF. Love!! The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Definitely read. I was hooked from page 1. It was offered at my library too, but I ended up buying cause I didn't want to wait.

Entwined's cover is breathtaking.

message 32: by Lacey (new)

Lacey | 61 comments Entwined is gorgeous, and the story is just as beautiful.

message 33: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Just checked out the release date. How did you get it so early? Are you a reviewer?

message 34: by Lacey (new)

Lacey | 61 comments Oh, I do a few reviews, and I also have some connections where I can get ARC's. Are you wanting to read it?

message 35: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Lacey, I would like to become a reviewer for anyone and anything. I haven't found very many promising websites to do this from. The ones I have found require me to write something. I don't write... Any suggestions for me?

Right now I am reading Poison Study. I like it a lot. More than I thought I would.

Hey, I do have one website that's easy for anyone to get into, have you tried Net Galley before? They don't require reviews they only ask for them. You don't actually get to keep the book because they send it to you via e-book and you only get to keep it for 60 days. That's one of your options.

and I loved the Study's series by Synder, but her Glass series is the best! :)

message 37: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Thanks Lacey. I will check that out this weekend.

I will have to check out her Glass series if I ever get through the Study series. So many books, so little time! GRR! :)

message 38: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments Rachel, The Poison Study was actually pretty good. I'll be curious to your thoughts when you finish the series.

Sashana, I am half way through The Last Sacrific and I do like it but Rose is killing me at times..

Heather, I thought Rose's character took kind of a nosedive in the last couple of books. It was frustrating for me--she was like a hurricane blowing through but not sticking around to clean up the damage she caused, lol.

message 40: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments Oh, sister, Galla, you nailed it! Granted I am not done with the book yet but I swear it is like Rose slowing became TSTL and that kills me. She started off so strong and then became a joke..

Character regression always kills me! I know fans of the series are a little divided over the last two books, but I was definitely in the WTF? camp.

Amanda (peanutty222) I am reading Afterlight (The Dark Ink Chronicles, #1) by Elle Jasper and I'm having mixed reviews so far. I really liked how the book started, but then the main character, Riley, talked about herself for the next several chapters and it was quite annoying. "I'm so awesome, noone can beat me up, I'm not goth I just dress like it, I'm so awesome...." yadda, yadda, yadda. I almost put the book down. Then I met Eli and now it seems to be getting back on track. We'll see.....

Lacey | 61 comments I am currently reading Angel Burn by L.A. Weatherly. I'm liking it thus far and I am intrigued on where this book is coming.

Couldn't add the cover because it isn't out yet so sorry about that.

message 44: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I'm reading Once and Always by Judith McNaught and it is so good! It's my first book by this author and I am pleasantly surprised especially because it's historical romance- which I'm not a very big fan of.

message 46: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Sure, just as long as you tell me what you think of Angel Burn. Let me know if it's good or just another teenybopper PNR.

Lacey | 61 comments Deal!

message 48: by Sans (new)

Sans I'm working my way through Rhapsody Child of Blood (Symphony of Ages, #1) by Elizabeth Haydon and it's getting more and more amazing. I've been home sick and this is keeping my mind off my coughing fits. I know it won't happen, but I'm wishing Rhapsody and Achmed would end up together.

message 49: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments Galla, OMG, I finished Last on Sunday and just didn't quite get the ending. Was there a hea? Did I miss something and I can't understand how Mead changed some of the characters; ones you never thought would fall of the straight and narrow!! And Rose, please don't get me started on her..

message 50: by Liz (new)

Liz Fichera (lizfichera) I've just started OPHELIA by Lisa Klein and I'm enjoying very much. It's a darker retelling of Hamlet. Sort of SHAKESPEARE IN LOVEish. Not the usual kind of book that I read but I'm liking it. I downloaded it from my library. Ophelia by Lisa M. Klein
