Christina Stind I'm about halfway through Smashed, Squashed, Splattered, Chewed, Chunked and Spewed by Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ author Lance Carbuncle. Not quite sure what I think yet - but definitely some funny parts.

Ditto that! The Namesake was an excellent book. I really enjoy this author's work. I still need to read Unaccustomed Earth.

Nadia A (bagambo) Am reading Twenties Girl and Sense and Sensibility.

message 954: by Donna (new)

Donna Just started The Commoner A Novel and I am really enjoying it. Since the Japanese royal family is not very open about personal matters a good bit is fiction but the story is still based on the life of the current Empress.

Yishian (YishRhymesWithFish) | 1 comments hey! I'm new to goodreads, and i'm so glad i've found it because i've been looking for a good way to find new books to read!

message 956: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi, Yishian :) If you post your introduction in the introduction section you'll be sure to get more welcomes, and get to know more people. But seeing as you've posted here, hi!

Is The Good Earth historical fiction?

message 961: by Petra In Aotearoa (new)

Petra In Aotearoa (petra-x) What we did on our Holidays by Geoff Nicholson.

The book starts off in a very gently English way. A father, going through the existential angst of middle-age, is taking his wife and two teenaged children for their last joint family holiday. They are going to a caravan park and the talk is of motor insurance, car sickness, country walks and the like. It reads like its going to be a modern comedy of manners until he sitting in the happy silence of couples who know each other very well and his wife pipes up, "I'd really like to be shafted from behind by an Arab with a big tool, who really knows how to use it." Oh!

Donna Started Absolution by Murder by Peter Tremayne, the first in the Sister Fidelma series. I've wanted to read this for some time and I have a copy that will fit in my bag for my trip tomorrow so it was the perfect choice.

message 972: by Fiona (Titch) (last edited Sep 18, 2009 02:52PM) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) About to read Succubus in the City - Nina Harper.

Lily has what looks like the perfect life: a fabulous day job at a fashion magazine; a killer figure she can literally never lose; and a great group of girlfriends who are always there for her. Oh, and she also just-so-happens to be a succubus: an immortal demon who draws her power from other men's pleasure. Although working for the Devil does have it's perks, Lily's realising that serving up bad boys to the fiery pits of Hell is just getting ...well, lonely. Just once, Lily would like to wake up in the morning to something more than a pile of ashes but, contractually bound to Satan, she will only be released if someone truly loves her. Then the devilishly handsome PI Nathan Coleman enters her life and Lily begins to wonder if he might be the man she's been waiting for. He wants to ask Lily a few questions about a missing man, but suddenly someone - or something - wants Lily and her demon friends dead, and Nathan seems to know more than he'll admit to. Can a sweet-talking mortal and a girl from Hell ever really find true love?

I can completely see why people love it and yet it's hard to put into words. I can definitely see myself coming to appreciate it in the future, but my first (and so far, sole) experience of it was unremarkable.

message 993: by [deleted user] (new)

I should really be finishing Wuthering Heights (don't get me started on that one) but I'm starting Howards End by E.M. Forster.

message 994: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (sianin) Having a hard time finishing books again so I have put down Saving Fish from Drowning A Novel and started reading a GR giveaway Evenings at the Argentine Club and for my real person bookclub The Story of Edgar Sawtelle. I think I will be able to finish both of these.

I got about 85 pages into Wuthering Heights, put it down because I wanted to read something else and I never got back. I didn't hate it, but obviously wasn't moved enough.

message 997: by Lori (new)

Lori (tnbbc) Wow, some great books being read here.
I am currently reading Her Fearful Symmetry, in preparation for the Audrey Niffenegger Q&A session, and after that I plan on reading HELP! A Bear is Eating Me! - It looks hilarious!
