Alyssa Engelke (alyssalaine) | 11 comments My favorite place to read would be in my hammock, wrapped up in a blanket on a cool summer evening. If I was in public, my favorite place would be Barnes and Noble, Panera Bread, or Caribou Coffee. I feel very deeply that those three places should be connected.

out in the paddock in the sun...or all wrapped up in front of the fire on cold days
with a cup of tea of course

message 3: by Shannon (new)

Shannon | 63 comments I have to be by myself. I have horrible ADD and any little thing distracts me. I love sitting on the deck to read. We live IN the woods so all I have for distractions is squirrels, birds, and deer.

I live in the country, so there are birds around, but it's more farm equipment I hear. I wish I was someplace more woodsy!

There are a few fields by us but not many. And they are a mile or so away. so I do hear some tractors but they aren't that loud. Mostly the stupid frogs drown everything else out. man those suckers are deafening loud!

We don't have any of those too close to us! They are super loud though! Still, it's nice listening to all the sounds of nature!

message 8: by Shannon (new)

Shannon | 63 comments Nice??? They make me insane! Between the frogs and the bloody whippoorwill i hate nature! They are just SO LOUD! And the stupid whippoorwill starts at 4am! Every stinkin day til he finds a stupid mate! And he sits RIGHT outside my bedroom window!
The noise gets into my head and echos my thoughts right out my ears! lol

message 9: by Shannon (last edited Apr 12, 2011 10:27PM) (new)

Shannon | 63 comments I walk around mumbling, Peaceful country living my butt! lmbo
But then I wouldn't do well in town either cause I don't like neighbors. so either way I'm complaining. lol if I was forced to choose, I'd have to choose the country. I don't like when people "stop by". Or come over at all for that matter. lol

message 10: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa Engelke (alyssalaine) | 11 comments Haha so you are somewhat of a hermit?! That's so funny! I don't like those whipporwills either. Obnoxious! But everything else I love :)

message 11: by Shannon (new)

Shannon | 63 comments Yeah I'd call myself that. That's why I made an excellent truck driver. lol I don't really need people around me. ever. lol
I told my husband he had a few choices. 1. kill the whippoorwill 2 relocate him. He said he wasn't doing either. So I make SURE he's awake and listening to him every single time he starts making racket! lol The stupid bird hasn't started yet this year...but he will. he always does!
In The Secret Life of Bees. pg 51. she says, "If you think the country is quiet, you've never lived in it. Tree frogs alone make you wish for earplugs." OH BOY! does that hit the nail on the head!
My dad thought i was exhagrating (sp?) about how loud they were. Then he was here one summer night and he goes, man those frogs are loud! How can you stand them?! I said oh after a few years you learn to tune them out. kinda. lol

message 12: by Louise (new)

Louise | 280 comments I like to sit on the floorboards of our deck, leaning against a specific pillar, with a cappuccino.
If inside, lying on the couch, while the kids a sitting next to me reading or watching tv, or at night with soft music and a dog or two cuddled up to me.

message 13: by sonya (new)

sonya marie madden | 411 comments I'd love to read outdoors but my d-mn neighbor is nosy. I mainly read on my couch rubbing my feet on my cat. (sometimes with coffee or a glass of water nearby often with a blanket over me)

message 14: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (bookeater89) Coffee shop, is my favourite place to read. Because there is too much to take in so I can block the whole lot out. I really dislike reading at home, because everybody tries to be quiet which is just more distracting because I wonder what they are all doing.

message 15: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (elliearcher) I like coffee shops too. No one in my family tries to be quiet. I guess that's a good thing. :)

When I was little I lived with my grandmother by a lake and the frogs were SO LOUD. It sounded like 100 bullfrogs were right outside my window EVERY NIGHT and it took me forever to fall asleep. I feel your pain! We live next to a highway and I still think it's quieter than the country.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

my family is totally opposite rather then be quite they like to yell things to me...lucky my block out system is fantastic

message 18: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (esmerelda1) | 36 comments Before I had kids I had the luxury of being able to spend hours reading and I used to move the couch in front of the fireplace. I'd stretch out on the couch and get all nice and toasty. Nowadays, my daughter likes me to sit in her room while she's falling asleep so I've moved the recliner into her room and I read with a book light until she falls asleep.

Soul (soulkeeper720) | 17 comments Early morning : in balcony on chair
while going to work : in train
while Working : on my workstation
after work hours : on my iPhone
Late at night : on my bed

because it is the way it has been for last 7 months.
and i like it that way.

message 20: by ~Geektastic~ (new)

~Geektastic~ (atroskity) I like to lie in my bed under the comforter, with the dogs curled up around my legs and a nice hot cup of tea (with cream and sugar)on the bedside table. That's the preference anyway; usually I just read wherever and whenever I can, which is usually on the couch while my husband and roommates play very loud video games.

now that is cute

message 22: by Teawench (new)

Teawench I'm on the go far too much to have a favorite spot to read. Ideally, it's on the shore of Lake Superior or on the couch with my cat in my lap, a pile of books on one side & a pot of tea on the other.

Hannah (hannah_337) | 19 comments My dad thought i was exhagrating (sp?) about how loud they were. Then he was here one summer night and he goes, man those frogs are loud! How can you stand them?! I said oh after a few years you learn to tune them out. kinda. lol ."

It's the same with seagulls here. You do learn to tune them out but they are LOUD! I love to read wrapped up in a blanket in bed. I work evenings but on the occasional one I have off, I read in front
of the fire. If it's a nice day, I read outside while my cat sits under my chair. That's a lovely experience.

message 24: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa Engelke (alyssalaine) | 11 comments I like to read in coffee shops too, but I HATE coffee. Weird, right? I hate the taste, and the smell makes me sick to my stomach. I'm not sure why, but when I'm reading, I can handle it. I guess I don't even notice the smell. Caribou Coffee is my favorite...Does anyone else know of caribou?

Sometimes coffee smells like a skunk to me, but not all the time. Now THAT'S weird! lol

message 26: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa Engelke (alyssalaine) | 11 comments Haha I agree with that!! It always smells skunky to me. Never thought anyone would understand that besides me lol

I can't imagine what it's like not to like the smell of coffee. It's been one of my favorite smells for as long as I can remember. Coffee shops are a great place to read, whether you like the coffee or not though. Occasionally you may meet people who are interested in what you are reading and have a really great conversation; I love those days.

message 28: by Hector (new)

Hector Peniche | 9 comments I like reading in the park while in London. Or the beach when in Mexico. Sitting in the shade though, the sun hits the paper here in Mexico and you are inmediatly blinded by the reflexion of the light. I also love to read at my restaurant in the airconditioned dinning room, between meals ofcourse....

message 29: by Reese (new)

Reese Copeland (nonfreak) | 46 comments Reading at home is kinda nice cause I get kick back in my recliner or sit outside on my swinging bench.

message 30: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (imsophiedavies) I read everywhere; I do not have a favourite place but I do enjoy the clever little places I find to read such as when sitting in a queue of traffic!

message 31: by Bridgette (new)

Bridgette | 36 comments im the exact same Sophie, even though i cannot drive yet

message 32: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (sewtechnicolor) | 55 comments Probably my favorite place I've ever read was about three years ago when we went on vacation to the Florida Keys. Our cute little hotel was pretty much deserted. The yard was beautiful, even with a "manmade" beach with steps that led down into the ocean. I pulled a lounge chair into the shade (no sunburn for me, thank you) and read for hours. It was beautiful and breezy and quiet. :) I also used to love reading on my grandma's front porch swing. It was really narrow and hard, but I loved it.

Now I usually read in my room, at the desk (because the lamp near my comfy chair broke...guess I just need to buy another one). Or in the car, either waiting or riding. :)

message 33: by Amber (new)

Amber (bluebleeder) | 31 comments I don't really have a favorite place to read...I read wherever I can. I don't like to read in bed much, though.

message 34: by Abby (new)

Abby | 1 comments I like to read in my dad's car in the summer with the door or windows open or something, not sure why this is... :)
But normally I just read in my bed. :)

I don't really have a favorite spot to read since I'll ready anywhere I have a chance to. The spots I most often read at home are the couch in my living room and when the weather is nice enough out on my balcony where I can watch the birds by the pond behind my apartment building.

message 36: by Thom (new)

Thom Swennes (Yorrick) | 592 comments My favorite place to read would have to be outside on a warm sunny day.

message 37: by McKenzie (new)

McKenzie | 45 comments Probably in bed before I go to sleep. I do most of my reading at work when it's slow but I definitely prefer lying down on my bed to indulge.

message 38: by Jana (new)

Jana (janablaha) | 28 comments In the Spring and Summer on warm days I take the dog to the park with my chair or a blanket and sit to read under a tree while she plays with dogs passing by :). Otherwise, I have this 1 1/2 chair with ottoman that I inhabit pretty regularly that makes for nice reading, with music playing (usually New Age). I find it hard to read in bed because we don't have a headboard (our bedroom is narrow and oddly shaped so it's not really conducive to a headboard) so I find it can be uncomfortable but I can see the allure of reading in bed lol. I used to read on the subway all the time when I lived in Brooklyn and would commute to midtown. Tea or coffee beside me, or a glass of wine is always nice. And I too love to read in cafes such as Starbucks or Panera Bread.

message 39: by Laurie (new)

Laurie I read wherever and whenever I can. All I need is a book (or phone or laptop).

message 40: by Neko (new)

Neko Airchair which is outside..I love reading in it when it's Summer time or a warm day...It's like a hammock only it like a seat.

Otherwise I tend to like reading in the bath or in bed.

And there is one tree out in a park that I LOVE to be under and also read..It is amazing feeling.

message 41: by Jill (new)

Jill (jillylilly) My puffy red leather chair, in front of a bright sunny window!!! It's the best....

message 42: by Legacy-serenity (new)

Legacy-serenity Devine (Legacy-Devine) | 6 comments My favorite place to read is in central park and in union square by the water fountain. I love reading by water fountains, love it.

message 43: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (shananigansreads) | 355 comments I'm an anywhere type reader too, seriously I'll pull out a book at a long stop light. But when I'm at home I tend to read in my arm chair wrapped in a blanket with my feet tucked up under me. A little music playing in the background and I won't move for hours.

message 44: by Legacy-serenity (new)

Legacy-serenity Devine (Legacy-Devine) | 6 comments I love alittle music too Shannon.

message 45: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany (herbtiff) In front of the fireplace with a little music in the background. Unfortunately, most the time I get to read in my bed after reading to others late at night.

message 46: by D.T. (new)

D.T. | 3 comments In bed until I fall asleep.

message 47: by Debbie (last edited Apr 30, 2011 03:34PM) (new)

Debbie (debbie_smith) | 43 comments I love to read on the deck outside in the woods, in my car at lunch while I'm waiting on my daughter or son, on my couch-even with the TV going. I can't read in bed anymore though I'm not sure why. I fall asleep too fast and miss the story(can't be age...right?) 8^D

message 48: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (theperksofbeingabookworm) | 10 comments Lying in the sunshine, in a garden (weather a public one, or my own back garden). But since I live in Scotland and we have approximately 3 minutes of sunshine per year, I make do with a comfy seat in Starbucks. I also adore a small cafe in the city centre called 'The Elephant House". It's the place J.K. Rowling wrote much of the Harry Potter series, and there's such a connection to literature in there.

Mostly though, I make do with reading on the bus en-route to work/in the staff room at work and in bed at the end of a hard day.

message 49: by Heather (new)

Heather (purdyflower14) | 13 comments I like to read in bed before I go to sleep.

message 50: by Robert (new)

Robert Clear (robertclear) | 10 comments For me it's all about reading in bed.
