message 258: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I finished three books I've been working on-- Franklin and Winston Franklin and Winston An Intimate Portrait of an Epic Friendship by Jon Meacham , In the Shadow of the Crown In the Shadow of the Crown (Queens of England, #6) by Jean Plaidy and Spinning into Butter: A Play Spinning into Butter A Play by Rebecca Gilman . "Franklin" was wonderful. "Shadow" was good in the beginning and then. Just. Got. Tedious. I was glad to see the end of it. "Spinning" was both good and disappointing-- it's about racism and she seems to get close to an a-ha moment without actually reaching it completely. But then, that may well be part of her point.

I just finished reading this last week! Let me know what you think. I have mixed feelings about the storyline but I do like Emily Giffin's style of writing. And I started "Love the One You're With" this week.

I liked it except I COULD NOT see why she hadn't ditched Darcy long ago. Kind of like my reaction to the movie Sliding Doors-- LOVEd the movie except I couldn't understand what either of the women would see in that guy.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll put them on my to do read list. I'm slowly getting into the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris and if you haven't read Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness you should. I'm over the whole vampire/sci fi thing but this book is AWESOME! and it's the first of a trilogy.

message 291: by Ana (new)

Ana Oh I don't really mind the paranormal element:) It's not they are my very favorite, but I read paranormal once in a while. Thanks for the recommendation..I just added the book by Deborah Harkness and I'm looking forward to reading it. It does sound interesting:). Thanks for recommending Cjandres:)

I've read 3 or 4 others of hers and liked them-- they're chick lit but not the zany or over-consumerist kind. If you like Marian Keyes, she's like that but English as opposed to Irish-- focused on the relationships in her books rather than on the jobs or the props.

message 293: by Sana (new)

Sana | 4 comments I am thinking of starting Fools Rush In by Janice Thompson on my Kindle. What do you ppl say ? Is it an interesting read ??

I like her books, too - sometimes she's funny because she'll be writing about Americans and use a British phrase, which is a little weird, but I guess I'd do that if I were writing about another country, too!

message 295: by Ana (new)

Ana I just started Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta

message 296: by Susan (new)

Susan I'm finishing up Slow Burn by Julie Garwood. I am loving this series and can't wait to read the rest!!
