I intersperse them with bunches of other books (plus need to read the book before Stormlord Rising first), so I expect at least one of them will settle comfortably into May.

★ Jess | 3071 comments Yay, looks like a great challenge Brenda!

Fortunately, there are PLENTY fantasy/sci-fi books on my to-read list, so I will have no problem choosing one.
Tossing up between any Stephen King book or The Secret Hour

Jacinta Hoare | 62 comments Oh lovely, I will enjoy this.

On the recommendation of someone in the group I ordered The Magicians' Guildby Trudi Canavan. I have been looking forward to reading this and I will be able to count another Australian author to my list for this year.

Monya (monyamary) Sally906 wrote: "I have The Death of Grass by John Christopher ready to go - so now have an excuse to pull it up to the top of the TBR pile."

Sally906 - The Death Of Grass is superb. My opinion, of course, and it's years since I read it, though I still have the paperback. Pretty grim in spots but very believable and a great storyline.

@ Brenda - stunning illustrations!

@ KnowledgeLost - The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress sounds familiar, I may have read it a long time ago. The title certainly set off a good vibe.

@ everyone - one of the greatest S.F. books you'll ever read is Ursula K. Le Guin's "The Left Hand Of Darkness", if you can find a copy.

Happy reading!

Monya (aka Mary)

Thanks for all your input Monya! I'll have a look for The Left Hand of Darkness, see if my library has a copy. :)
(I can't take all the credit for the illustrations, or the rest of the challenge..Laura and Carmel had a major hand in it too) :)

message 28: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Yay! I'm sure I'll read a few of these from my TBR mountain over the course of the month. :) Love the illustrations!!

That will be great Cheryl!! We actually had lots of illustrations to choose from, it was very hard to select only two!!! :)

Murray Gunn (murraygunn) | 211 comments Jacinta wrote: "On the recommendation of someone in the group I ordered The Magicians' Guild by Trudi Canavan"

I found the first one a bit bland, Jacinta, but even if you find the same, stick with it. I loved The Novice so much I've reread it about 5 times.

Murray Gunn (murraygunn) | 211 comments Mickey wrote: "Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card and if I finish that I might read a second book."

Good choice, Mickey. Ender's Game is one of my favourite SciFi book, and the sequel Speaker for the Dead was a big influence on my deciding to study anthropology.

message 32: by Murray (new)

Murray Gunn (murraygunn) | 211 comments I'll be reading The Prodigal Mage in May, but does it really count if I only join challenges when they fit books I was planning to read anyway? It feels like cheating.

Shona (shonahusk) I'm going to read The Sevenfold Spell (fantasy)

Michael (knowledgelost) Every book I've read of his has left me with something to ponder

message 42: by Maggie (new)

Maggie Will definitely be in this challenge. Not sure which book yet as I have lots of sci-fi on my TBR list. In fact I have recently purchased many sci-fi books from a fantastic 2nd hand book shop who specialise in it.

For those in Adelaide, checkout the Blackwood Book Exchange if you want sci-fi or fantasy (or any other book - it's quite a big shop). The owner, David, is an avid collector from the US. Every so often he returns home to bring back another shipping crate of books.

I like it when we have opportunities to share what we are reading regardless of the reasons as it allows me to check out new titles and authors. Click, click, click there they go, added to my TBR list and then I order from BD as I work through the physical pile. Saves me soooo much internet trawling time.

message 50: by Maggie (new)

Maggie I'm thinking of a few. Maybe Threshold by Sara Douglass, or Black Trillium by Marion Zimmer Bradley. This is the first in a series, and I have the first three books, so that would be a good one to clear from my TBR. Problem is I have many sci-fi waiting TBR.
