I've had a blog that I had to do for an assignment almost 2 years ago. After the semester I went to shut it down and I got tons of emails on what happened. So I fired up and have kept it going. It's just ramblings, I try to keep it positive though.

I enjoyed reading your reviews. It was refreshing that you got to the point about what you did or didn't like about the book and your negative comments were straightforward without sounding mean.

Lisa | 617 comments I had to create a blog for one of my classes and have tried to keep up with it a bit. It mostly is thoughts on books I've read, but includes some other random things (such as a book trailer).

Also, for anyone trying to start a blog I found these tips that I thought could be helpful -

I've only recently been doing a blog. It's fun but sometimes I wonder just what I'm supposed to be writing about so I end up writing about writing.

Stop in and take a look:

message 62: by Al (new)

Al | 52 comments I don't have a blog, exactly, but...well, I kind of have one, sort of. It's a blog I maintain for someone else, actually. Her name is Ana Darcy Méndez, and as far as I know she's the only extraterrestrial with her own blog. She's extremely publicity shy, and I take care of it for her.

She was born on the planet Thomo, 25 light years from Earth, you see, and her people sent her here to see if this is the planet they had originated from. (It was.) So she's human. Naturally enough she found everything here new to her when she landed. I hope that makes sense.

Folks who have met her through her stories have often wished they could meet her, have lunch with her, and so on. Her blog, therefore, is a basic way to do that. She's found our food wonderful in its variety, for example, and her experiments with cooking have been original and unusual. Thus her blog mentions many of her kitchen creations and recipes.

It also touches on our art that she has enjoyed, our poetry, and our music. Of interest to some readers, her native language, related to ours but extinct on Earth, is discussed in several places. There are pictures of her, of places she has been, of cats (who seem to gravitate to her for reasons they don't explain) and other animals, maps of locations of her stories, and more!

Visitors are welcome!

It's at

Mary (marynovik) | 56 comments Blogging--mine is at --is a great way for an author to meet readers and stay in touch with them, especially when you're between books, as I am. My novel Conceit was published in 2007 and I've been working on a new novel since then. Sometimes I feel as if I just have to get out and take a breath of fresh air!

My latest blog is about the novel I'm writing, Muse, which is set in 14th-century Avignon when the popes were there. If any of you have any suggestions about what you'd like to see in the new book, send them my way!

Cheers,
Mary Novik

P.S. We had a great discussion of Conceiton Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ just a few months ago. If you're interested, it's still here: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/5...

Susan Hero or monster? My newest DARK DEEDS post

Scott Dekraai was working on a tugboat two miles off the coast of Los Angeles in 2007 when a tow line snapped, crushing a female co-worker. Scott rushed to help her, but the woman died, and Scott's leg was mangled. Some called his actions "heroic." But his marriage to Michelle Fournier Dekraai, was troubled.
A month after the accident they divorced.

Unable to work and in constant pain, Scott doted on his son Dominic who attended school in Seal Beach where Michelle lived. On October 13, 2011, after a phone conversation with Michelle, Scott strapped on body armor and drove to Seal Beach. Dominic, age 8, was at school waiting for someone to pick him up, but Scott didn't go there. Armed with three handguns, he drove to Salon Meritage where Michelle was a hair stylist. Read more at

You might like this article about how to get people to not only follow your blog, but also to buy your book. Let's face it, if they are not buying your book then there is no point to having a blog.

message 85: by Susan (new)

Susan Because I write crime thrillers, I do a blog about true crime cases.
I get a lot of visitors, but here's my problem. TIME and the lack thereof. It's a lot of work to summarize the cases, time that I don't have if I want to keep writing my thrillers.

So here's a question. I'm thinking about starting a blog written by my series protagonist, New Orleans homicide detective Frank Renzi. Franks Rants, or some such thing, short posts about whatever topic is current ... like WHO CARES who won the Superbowl? :)
What do you think?

I'd think that would be cool. You can set him up with a twitter account and have him tweeting as well.

message 87: by Betsy (new)

Betsy Miller I'm going to start a blog next month. Since I write nonfiction and fiction in a variety of genres, the only thing that ties my work together is my name and the fact that writing is involved. So I'm going to write about writing and related topics like research, ebooks, and publishing. I'll post again here when it goes live.

Okay, I did my first Renzi's Rants post:
Super Bowl Pooper Bowl

Don't know about the tweeting part tho...

message 89: by Susan (new)

Susan There's a new post up on Renzi's Rants. The topic? Politics and Sex

Okay, folks, here's a heads-up. When I say politics and sex, I'm not talking about Bill and Monica or all the other sex scandals involving politicians. I'm talking about politicians who want to control your sex life. It's pretty explicit, which means, of course, that some of you will not want to read it. But in case you do, here's the link.

Aaron Thibeault (thebookreporter) | 109 comments Hello. Every second week I read a brand new popular non-fiction book at the intersection of science and the humanities and write an article wherein I summarize the main argument of the book and offer up some of the juicier details and anecdotes to be found therein (at newbooksinbrief.wordpress.com). Some of the books I've covered recently include 'The Social Conquest of Earth' by E.O. Wilson; 'The Power of Habit' by Charles Duhigg; and 'Abundance: The Future Is Better Than You Think' by Peter Diamandis. Feel free to drop by the site to check out my work (again, newbooksinbrief.wordpress.com)

Cheers,
Aaron,
