LadyDisdain Hello ladies.
So, seeing as we're all into books I was just wondering what you were all reading at the moment.

As for me, I took the lovely Soph's advice & and am re-reading Northanger Abbey (an Austen, what else - I'll get onto another author soon). And it's a great experience because it's been so long since I last read it that I can't remember a lot of the details & dialogue so it feels as if I'm reading an Austen for the first time. Which is a huge deal as she only wrote 6 books and it doesn't take long to get through them :(
What book's got your attention at the moment?

message 6: by Caity, that crazy moderator (new)

Caity | 4434 comments Mod
Stephanie: I agree with Soph, start with P&P, or NA, but prolly P&P. :) btw, how is Dickens these days? ;) havent read him in awhile. ;P

Soph: I agree, in that Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ has given me lots of good friends! Lol

Oh, what do you think of it so far? Have you read other Dickens?

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

Already read all of Austen's. Totally wish she wrote more:) So now I'm reading Beowulf(for school) and The Screwtape Letters(on my own) I'm really enjoying both!

I am SO looking forward to Oliver Twist! when I was about 8, the Great Illustrated Classic of that was my favorite book and I read it over and over! ;)

'Thanks for the recommendation '
Welcome :)

message 11: by LadyDisdain (new)

LadyDisdain I want to read Oliver Twist as well, but I think my next Dickens will be Little Dorrit simply because I want to watch the adaptation of it as Macfadyen's in it ;) Although I've heard it's a bit of a tough read :S

message 12: by Sophie, The Romantic Moderator :) (new)

Sophie | 2550 comments Mod
Adaptation is great :D

message 13: by LadyDisdain (new)

LadyDisdain Hehe, ok, that'll give me good incentive to power through the book.

Hhhh u haven't seen Little Dorrit???? Shock! L I didn't like the bad guy much and there was one or two "ew" parts, but it was mostly gr8!!!!

message 15: by Sophie, The Romantic Moderator :) (new)

Sophie | 2550 comments Mod
yes i know what you mean! bad guy? remind me... having a brunette blonde moment... ;)
and was quite sad towards the end.
but overall - totally worth it and MacFayden - amazing!!! <3 <3 <3

message 16: by Sophie, The Romantic Moderator :) (new)

Sophie | 2550 comments Mod
It is :) I liked it anyway :) and MacFayden is a bonus - no side burns though unfortunately ;)

message 17: by LadyDisdain (new)

LadyDisdain Haha, aww, the terrible loss :P

Alice wrote: "Hhhh u haven't seen Little Dorrit???? Shock! L I didn't like the bad guy much and there was one or two "ew" parts, but it was mostly gr8!!!!"

Yeah, I know, but I have this thing where I have to read the book before seeing the adaptation if I can help it.

Oh, I'm the same way! I read several of Elizabeth Gaskell's books after seeing the movies and loved them, and then I tried to read Cranford, but couldn't get passed the fact that I wasn't able to picture the characters, so I set it aside for future reading (and now I have seen Cranford and LOVED it!)

message 19: by Caity, that crazy moderator (new)

LadyDisdain: oh, well, thats understandable. I guess it helps you get in a lot of classics?? :D
Soph: You know, the murderer creep guy? lol

message 20: by Caity, that crazy moderator (new)

Caity | 4434 comments Mod
Yea its gr8 to see how they portray characters and events on the movies and in the books. ;)

I've never read Gaskell's books. Not completely anyway. Picked up North & South but didn't finish it before the due date. Will have to get back to that one again I think.

Alice wrote: "LadyDisdain: oh, well, thats understandable. I guess it helps you get in a lot of classics?? :D

Haha yup ;) But I definitely like classic lit anyway so I don't really need much of a push but a visual adaptation's always a good bonus.

Having a total blank... >.<

'Yea its gr8 to see how they portray characters and events on the movies and in the books. ;) '

Sophie | 2550 comments Mod
You got Colin on your brain ;)
Why don't I remember this!!!
SPOILERS -
Who does he murder? :S

message 28: by LadyDisdain (new)

LadyDisdain Does Firth play the character of Arthur as well? Cos that's also what Macfadyen plays :P

message 29: by Sophie, The Romantic Moderator :) (new)

Sophie | 2550 comments Mod
No - I think Alice just has Firth on the brain ;)

message 30: by LadyDisdain (new)

LadyDisdain Ah, I see :P I was just thinking if that was the case then Macfadyen would have played TWO of Firth's past roles. Macfadyen looks a little ... round-faced in Little Dorrit :P Guess because of the no side-burns thing.

message 31: by Caity, that crazy moderator (new)

Caity | 4434 comments Mod
Yea! I brain bleeped! Lol hahaha Soph! ;P lol No seriously, I get their names mixed up ALL the time! Lol yea I think I like him more with side burns. :/ pity. lol
he murders the dog, and some random character you dont hear about ...I'm trying to think..I don't know if he like murders any prominent characters, you just know from the beginning thats his forte. lol :/ sooo. yea he's a creep. lol

LOL currently I am reading "When the Heaven's Fall" by Gilbert Morris; GREAT BOOK SERIES! but wouldn't recommend for children. ;P lol its really good though! set during the Reformation/Elizabethan era. :)
