Just finished that one. It was good! :)

Susan Faloon | 35 comments Right now I'm reading "The Hangman's Daughter". I'm a member of Bzzagent.com. This is a company that sends me things to test as long as I Bzz or 'buzz' (talk) about it. The next book in the series is "The Dark Monk". This is the book that I agreed to read and spread the word about. They sent both books to my Kindle. I think it would be considered historical fiction, set in 1600's, Bavaria. It's not in the Christian category so I'm going to review it as to who I feel it is suitable for.

Short Straw Bride is my FAVORITE of hers! I have read it twice since getting it. Of course the reading it twice was all within the same few days. I finished it, reviewed it, and promptly read it again!

I've been working on Radical: Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream Radical by Platt for a book study at church. Not sure what I'll read next for Christian fiction. I have a lot of Christian non-fiction on my list. :)

Susan Faloon | 35 comments I'm reading Janet Tronstad's "Wildflower Bride in Dry Creek." It's another one of her books that I just can't put down. Love it.

message 75: by Ruth (new)

Ruth (ruthaxtell) | 19 comments I just finished Linda Lee Chaikin's Tomorrow's Treasure Tomorrow's Treasure (Chaikin, L. L., East of the Sun, 1.) by Linda Lee Chaikin . I really got into it and am looking forward to reading the other two in this British/South African series set in the 1890s, but it reminded me of reading Victoria Holt back in the 70s. You only get the heroine's POV and most of the exciting action seems to take place offstage in other people's lives and there is a secret that others seem to know about but not the heroine. The hero seems extremely arrogant and thoughtless and she hardly ever gets a chance to see him. It reminded me of Victoria Holt's The Secret Woman, one of my favorite books back then. So, even with the quiet rhythm of the heroine's life in a small vicarage, I still got involved with her story and would like to see it through.

That was a pretty good series, though not one of my favorites of hers.
Have you read any other books by Linda Lee Chaikin?

I'm not sure what I'll read next... I've got a couple from the library, some from my sis-in-law, & a bunch on my kindle. Oh! I hate having to choose! :oP

message 88: by Susan (new)

Susan Faloon | 35 comments This week I finished Janet Tronstad's new book, "Wildflower Bride for Dry Creek". Loved it! And yes, I cried. Now I'm reading "The Dark Monk" for bzzagent.com. It is interesting and has historical info but, as a warning, there is violence and language. There is info on monks, Knight's Templar etc. in the book.

message 89: by Susan (new)

Susan Faloon | 35 comments Wildflower is wonderful as are all the Dry Creek books.
The "Hangman's Daughter" series is well written. The violence of the torture is a little sickening. He does it because he is forced to as his ancestors did the same. The 'job' is passed down through the line. This really happened in their country. The author of the books learned about his lineage and that gave him info for the fiction books.
