"Oh, it seems like my understanding of the motivation behind China's international trade agreements being demonized by the West is in accord with the author's analysis.

What has made me surprised so far is the fact that there's such a thing charcoal blackening substituted for clothing in China. Pardon me for my ignorance. I'm still exploring the Chinese history."

"Back to basics since most of the books I'm into now have something to do with history. Sometimes I'm no longer familiar with the historical facts I passionately committed to memory back in high school. But this time it's not all about memorizing what happened in the past bur rather applying them to understanding of social and political situations." Mar 07, 2022 10:13AM

Meša Selimović
“We’ll imprison one another. We’ll get used to it. We’ll turn into moles, into bats, into scorpions.
“We won’t even get out. We’ll come to love the silence and the darkness.
“We won’t get out. We’ll stay here forever. We can’t live without eternity.
“We won’t forget one another.
“We’ll imprison our adversaries up above; we’ll banish them to the earth. And we’ll forget about them.
“‘When they’re pulled from hell, they’ll be thrown into the river of life.’
“They’ll be unhappy up above. They’ll cry: ‘Give us a little darkness. We were together with you!”
“And we’ll say to them: ‘Find darkness for yourself. Create it yourself!”
“How unhappy they’ll be! They’ll cry: ‘Release us! Let us come down below! And we’ll say to them: ‘That’s your own fault. You didn’t believe us.’
“That’s your own fault. Remain up above.
“Occasionally I’ll go up to the earth.
“You always rebel.
“You’ll be a mole-dervish. You’ll make sure that we never begin to see, that we never wander out of our dark world”
Meša Selimović, Death and the Dervish

Patrick Ness
“Not everyone has to be the Chosen One. Not everyone has to be the guy who saves the world. Most people just have to live their lives the best they can, doing things that are great for them, having great friends, trying to make their lives better, loving people properly. All the while knowing that the world makes no sense but trying to find a way to be happy anyway.”
Patrick Ness, The Rest of Us Just Live Here

Tim O'Brien
“He wanted to know her. Intimate secrets: Why poetry? Why so sad? Why that grayness in her eyes? Why so alone? Not lonely, just alone—riding her bike across campus or sitting off by herself in the cafeteria—even dancing, she danced alone—and it was the aloneness that filled him with love”
Tim O'Brien, The Things They Carried

“All this talking all the time, and the air fills up until there's nothing left to breathe.”
Isaac Brock

L.M. Montgomery
“I don't know which is worse - to have somebody you DON'T like ask you to marry him or NOT have some one you DO like. Both are rather unpleasant.”
L.M. Montgomery, Emily Climbs
