

“Unfortunately, however, “expository preachingâ€� is a term that can be misunderstood and therefore badly practised. Some take it that biblical exposition means nothing more than a running commentary on Scripture, explaining a passage verse by verse. Of course, it can and often does involve that, but on its own, that is a reductive understanding. Exposition fundamentally involves exposing Scripture so that people can see it clearly. It is the opposite of imposition, in which we impose other ideas that are not there in the Word of God. But expository preaching need not follow just one style. Faithful preachers may expose a word, a verse, a chapter, a book, or even a theme of Scripture.”
