You know, usually when the author gives more details than I'm interested in I just ignore it, but when a cop is involved in a hostage situation, do we really need to know the color and type of said cop's underwear?

"I'm not holding your hand," I tell him, smiling a little.
"All right" --he nods-- "but know that I would.”
