Easily one of the worst I’ve read from Brian Keene.

This felt more like a recap of a story than an actual story told out in real time. It also rambled on a lot.

Ever talk to someone who is trying to tell you a story and it takes them forever to get to the point? Yeah, that is Darkness On The Edge Of Town.

Cool concept though 🤷‍♂ ]]>

I wanted to try out a new author and saw good reviews for Seven Rabbits. After reading, I can say Timothy King made one hell of a first impression!

This is a slasher with purpose.

The kills aren’t meaningless and the story drives this entire book. I can’t say there are too many slashers out there that focus on character development, background, and meaning as much as Seven Rabbits. This is a story of revenge and the killers all have a clear motive. While the group of victims are mostly deserving of what’s coming to them, there are characters like our main protagonist Chase who are put into the mix without really being guilty of anything wrong. There’s just so many layers to this and the final product was so entertaining.

This should be a clear example of how to write a good slasher. ]]>

Jeff Strand is one of the best authors for blending horror and comedy together and making it effective! The Odds is no exception and was such a fun ride.

I like the focus on gambling and decision making. Our main protagonist was given his “odds of successfully winning a task before starting. Great concept and very corrupt group of villains running the games. I will say, the ending felt a bit rushed. Don’t want to give any spoilers but the villains seemed a lot less intimidating when all was said and done. But hey- it was still a fun ride.

In my opinion, this one is hard to not have fun with. ]]>

This is actually my first time reading a movie novelization. Normally I like going into a brand new story but Terrifier is the exception. I watched all 3 Terrifier movies and enjoyed each one.

Now for the book.

I’d say this is one of those rare cases where I prefer the movie over the book. Maybe it’s because I saw the movie first maybe it’s because the movie came first I’m not sure. But I will say the story reads more like scenes from a movie rather than chapters. Which I suppose makes sense considering this is a movie adaptation.

Putting that aside all the great gory scenes from the movie are also here. If you’re a Terrifier fan I suggest giving this a read as you will have a good time. ]]>

I’m all over the place with Duncan Ralston’s books. Some of his stories are amazing while others disappoint. I suppose Puzzle House falls somewhere in the middle. I didn’t hate it but I’ll probably forget about it.

The buildup was actually decent; However, I was expecting more once they got to Puzzle House. There wasn’t much action, just a lot of conversations and bickering humor between the characters. Some of it was a little corny.

I will give credit that some scenes had “wow moments but I didn’t really care when the characters started to die. The overall writing was still decent. ]]>

Why is this novel not talked about more? Hidden gem of the year so far!

If you’re familiar with Jon Athan’s work, Lambs To The Slaughter has quite a different feel. It’s also cowritten with Matthew Berry who I never heard of prior to reading this, but hats off to him because the two of these guys together delivered one hell of a story!

Think of corruption in law enforcement, meets criminal masterminds, meets Saw. Such a well thought out and developed story. The main protagonist and main villain couldn’t have been written any better. Never a dull moment and such a great flow.

Don’t sleep on Lambs To The Slaughter!!! ]]>
