I feel that one of the most difficult aspects of writing a biography is deciding where to draw the line on the level of detail to particular aspect's of one's life. While there are many wonderful insights, there are times when the level of detail is jarring. The briefness of some chapters (later to be developed several chapters later) and the almost cheesy detail of other aspects, such as Aung San Suu Kyi's marriage.

Some of the first witness accounts are dismaying. They describe how students following Aung San Suu Kyi took a few days off as a nun or a monk, to prepare themselves for their potential sudden death during her campaign in the 1980s.

Despite the biography's shortcomings, it is well researched and gives a valuable insight into the recent history of Burma and a foundation to understand the current political situation.
