The Giver is a dystopia. It has oppressive leaders who try to suppress people’s emotions. It also has themes about government control of everyday life. This is why I think the Giver is a dystopia.

I feel like the themes of this book strongly alludes to those of animal farm. They both have ideas of government control and the loss of humanity and empathy in these books.
