Greetings from Manitoba! Thanks so much for reaching out and for letting me know how much you liked the Gypsy King trilogy. As far as whether I'll ever write anything in that vein again, I really can't say. Right now, I'm having a lot of fun with my picture books and graphic novels. But never say never, right :)?
Take care, Maureen

Hi Bonnie - if you live in Canada the trilogy is available in kindle format but if you don't then it isn't because to date the books have not been published outside of Canada. Fingers (and toes) crossed that changes someday soon!
All the best,

Glad you liked the books! To answer your questions, years ago, I read "The Other Boleyn Girl" by Philippa Gregory and got hooked on all things Tudor England. So I'd say I drew a lot of inspiration from books I read about that time period. Each Gypsy King book took about a year to write and the planning process was extensive because I had to keep track of so many characters, subplots and themes. I also had to weave everything together and make sure that I left no loose threads. Suffice it to say that my poor, overworked brain ached a bit by the end of it :)

At this time, I don't have any plans to visit the province but I usually get out that way every couple of years or so. Next time that happens, I'll be sure to post details.

I got the idea for my current YA book from a rather bizarre personal experience I had as a teenager. Can't tell you more than that because it would spoil the book for you (and even if I did tell you more, you probably wouldn't believe me!)

I'm working on a contemporary YA novel that I hope to be finished in Spring 2015. I'm also writing the third book in a picture book series, the first book of which ("Buddy & Earl") will come out in 2015. I have two other picture books coming out next year so I'm doing the final edits on those, as well. Beyond that, by June 2015 I'm hoping to have developed an early chapter book series and have the first drafts of two more picture books completed.

Write - a lot! Make it a priority, not something you fit in around the edges of your life. Develop a thick skin because even after you get published, rejection is a big part of the game. Read with a view to informing your own writing. Most of all - don't give up! There are lots of people with talent out there who give up before they reach the finish line. Remember: trying is no guarantee that you'll succeed but giving up is a guarantee that you won't

The very best thing about being a writer is hearing from readers and knowing that I've connected with them in some way.

I keep writing! Even if it means sitting there for eight hours a day for days at a time, I just slog through it. I guess I figure that if I take a break every time I hit a block or snag, I'd spend more time away from my computer than at it!

I might be heading out west to do some library visits in the fall, and I'll definitely be scheduling a book signing at McNally's in Winnipeg in Spring 2015 when my two new picture books come out. I'm sure other opportunities for me to get out there and meet readers will pop up, though, and I'll be sure to post these on Facebook and Twitter.
