Darren Shan I'm not planning any series in the near future, but there are a few one-offs I hope to get stuck into soon.
Darren Shan I can't remember exactly when it started, but it was inspired by the flashes on the old cameras that people used for photos before smartphones became common place. They could be VERY bright, and I was often left blinking for several seconds afterwards, so I started the strangling so that I could pull a scowling face, which allowed me to scrunch up my eyes and not be blinded by the glare! :-)
Darren Shan As we see later in that book and the books beyond, Juni was never in love with Dervish, but was cruelly playing on his emotion to try and destory him. She did the same with Grubbs.
Darren Shan I have no regrets. I spend a LOT of time working on each book, and by the time I publish it, I know I've done the best job I possibly can with it at that perticular moment of my life. Once it's out there in the public domain, I put work on it behind me and move on to the next challenge.
Darren Shan No, I haven't even heard of it.
Darren Shan The most worrying "reality mirror" for me has been the rise of the far right, and how openly extremists have lied to the public and found favour. I thought with the Board that I was perhaps going too OTT, and that nobody could believe such an organisation could ever exist, but now I wonder if I maybe downplayed the possibilities slightly... :-)
Darren Shan I just wanted to write the type of horror book for children that didn't exist when I was a child. I drew inspiration from all over the place -- lots of horror films I'd and and horror books I'd read -- but from nowhere specific.
Darren Shan No, I don't think I will ever return to the Demonata universe. I felt it was perfectly structured, and I did everything with those storylines that I wanted to do with them.
Darren Shan Grubbs would have to be the favourite, but Darren does have a way of overcoming the odds, so... too close to call!!!
Darren Shan It's the word "tiny", as in "very small" -- "tie-nee". :-)
