My favourite of my books is The Thin Executioner. Thwack!!!!

I like it on its own terms, but obviously would have preferred a more faithful adaptation.

I'm not planning any series in the near future, but there are a few one-offs I hope to get stuck into soon.
Darren Shan
Yes, in the UK and USA, but not so much in other markets.

I can't remember exactly when it started, but it was inspired by the flashes on the old cameras that people used for photos before smartphones became common place. They could be VERY bright, and I was often left blinking for several seconds afterwards, so I started the strangling so that I could pull a scowling face, which allowed me to scrunch up my eyes and not be blinded by the glare! :-)

I've actually done events in Australia a couple of times, but quite long ago. I'd love to return some day, but I doubt it will be any time in the near of even medium future. :-(

As we see later in that book and the books beyond, Juni was never in love with Dervish, but was cruelly playing on his emotion to try and destory him. She did the same with Grubbs.

I have no regrets. I spend a LOT of time working on each book, and by the time I publish it, I know I've done the best job I possibly can with it at that perticular moment of my life. Once it's out there in the public domain, I put work on it behind me and move on to the next challenge.

I liked it on its own terms, but obviously would have preferred a far more faithful adaptation. There are no current plans for a Demonata movie, but hopefully one day...
Darren Shan
I built it up as I went along - I had almost nothing planned out at the start.
Darren Shan
No, I haven't even heard of it.

The most worrying "reality mirror" for me has been the rise of the far right, and how openly extremists have lied to the public and found favour. I thought with the Board that I was perhaps going too OTT, and that nobody could believe such an organisation could ever exist, but now I wonder if I maybe downplayed the possibilities slightly... :-)

I just wanted to write the type of horror book for children that didn't exist when I was a child. I drew inspiration from all over the place -- lots of horror films I'd and and horror books I'd read -- but from nowhere specific.
Darren Shan
No, I don't think I will ever return to the Demonata universe. I felt it was perfectly structured, and I did everything with those storylines that I wanted to do with them.

If there is to be a reboot, a TV series is more likely, which should also allow for a more faithful adaptation. Keep an eye on my Shanville Monthly newsletter for any updates.

Grubbs would have to be the favourite, but Darren does have a way of overcoming the odds, so... too close to call!!!
Darren Shan
It's the word "tiny", as in "very small" -- "tie-nee". :-)
Darren Shan
He's not based on anyone -- he grew out of the writing process -- I didn't know or plan much about him to begin with.
