Nice and Easy is almost here!

I'm SO excited that you all get to dive into Nice and Easy on Tuesday!! (Feb 12th :) )

Nice and Easy wasn't, well, easy to write! lol! And it took me a long time to figure out why. Actually, it took author friend Lila Dubois to figure out why!

I was gritting my teeth and cursing at Caleb and Lexi for not doing things my way one day while chatting on Facebook with Lila, Mari Carr, and Erin McCarthy. My problem? Caleb and Lexi were too perfect for one another. They already had the co-parenting and friendship thing worked out. They loved each other's kids. They had a ton of chemistry. So why couldn't they just be together already? Why even write the book? They already had their happily ever after right in front of them.

But, well, that's not how romance novels work, right? :) There has to be SOME obstacle for them to figure out, some way for them to grow, something that makes them truly think about if the relationship is worth it.

Lila fixed the problem for me when she said, "So he's the big hero, the guy who fixes everything for her, the one with all the answers, right?"

Me: "Yep."
Her: "Then you have to come up with something he *can't* fix. Something that goes against his world view of taking care of her and doing everything right."
Me, "Oooooh."
Nice and Easy
And, being me, I didn't just come up with one thing Caleb had to struggle with (hint, something with one of the kids), but TWO things... including something that Lexi needed and wanted from him, that he wasn't sure he could deliver. In the bedroom.

This took the story in a whole new, very fun, very satisfying direction! Nothing I love more than seeing an uber-confident, alpha guy face the fact that he's not good at *everything*...and then work his ass off to figure out a way to BE good at those things too for the woman he loves!

I can't wait for you to see how Lexi and Caleb really figure everything out, including how to love each other exactly the way they both need to be loved!

xoxo

My Best Friend's Mardi Gras Wedding is almost here!

I can't wait for you to meet Josh and Tori in the first book in my new series, Boys of the Bayou!

Here's a peek into My Best Friend's Mardi Gras Wedding!

He tossed the two quarters in the tip bottle on the bar. “Free three sips of a drink. Fifty-cent payment for the advice to stay the hell away from N’Awlins boys who drink too much bourbon and barely recognize nice girls anymore.

“You think I’m a nice girl?

“I definitely do.

She was. She didn’t realize she broadcast it quite so loudly, but yeah, she was. She nodded. “Sorry about that.

He gave her a smile. “Somebody’s gotta go square dancing with all those nice farm boys up north.

She gave a little gasp, but she couldn’t help her grin. “I’ve never been square dancing in my life.

He chuckled. “But I bet you’ve let a nice Iowa boy drive you around on his tractor. He wiggled one eyebrow suggestively.

She scoffed. “Not even once.

“N?

She shook her head. “Don’t need a boy for that. Tori slid her purse strap up on her shoulder. “I’ve got my own tractor to drive around. When I’m in the mood for…tractor driving.

There was a brief pause and then he laughed.

In a brief flash of sassiness, she winked at him. “But if you ever make it to Iowa, I’ll take you on a ride.

“Damn, girl, that’s tempting.

She smiled. “Thanks, Josh.

“Fǰ?

“Being a good guy.

He gave a little shrug. “I’m already regretting it, I’ll be honest.

With a smile, she turned and started for the door.

She’d just stepped out onto the sidewalk when she felt someone grasp her upper arm and twirl her around.

It was Josh.

“W—

He cupped her face and covered her mouth with his.

His protective streak is even hotter than the local jambalaya.

Beauty and the Bayou is out in the world and I'm SO thrilled with the response!

I'm so happy you all love Sawyer and Juliet as much as I do!

I remember a reader saying after Sweet Home Louisiana that she couldn't wait to see who was going to heal him. That really hit me and I really wanted to do Sawyer and his past trauma justice while also making sure that he got the happily ever after he so deserved! I'm so glad to know that I pulled that off! :)

Thank you to everyone who grabbed Beauty and the Bayou already and who have left lovely reviews and sent me such amazing notes!

And I can't wait for you all to get to know Kennedy and Bennett better and see how this guy handles the feistiest Landry of all (or is that Ellie? Or Leo? lol!) Hint: he doesn't handle her. He just loves her ;)

We'll go back to the bayou on September 30th!

Thank you again for making release week for Beauty and the Bayou so much fun!!

Getting Off Easy is coming January 14th!

Getting Off Easy, Boys of the Big Easy book four, is almost here!!

No worries, you can jump in right here if this is your first trip to New Orleans to visit my hot single dads!

You're definitely going to want to check out the playboy firefighter who finds an abandoned baby on his doorstep! James is something special! And how is his across-the-hall neighbor, Harper, supposed to resist when he comes knocking and asking for help? She's a goner, folks. And she doesn't even really mind! :)

You know, this book almost didn't happen!

Book three came out last February and it was feeling like readers were more ready for the spin-off series, Boys of the Bayou, than they were for more from the Big Easy. So we headed down to the bayou and jumped in with the Landry family! And that was so much fun!

Then, when that series wrapped up and I was getting ready for my next series, there was just this niggling in the back of my mind. I'd had James and Harper's story with me for a very long time. I knew all about the baby boy that would show up on James's doorstep and about the buttoned-up professor that lives across the hall and the fluffy little dog they share custody of. I just couldn't shake their story. So I decided to start writing it and see how it went.

Well, it went amazingly well. The story just flew out of my fingers! And then I sent it off to my editor and she absolutely fell head over heels for James and Harper and everyone and well, obviously, we had to get it out to readers!

So, I'm thrilled to now be just two weeks away and to already have some early reviews in telling me that going back to the Big Easy and writing this book was absolutely the right thing to do!

I hope you'll check out Getting Off Easy on January 14th!

Getting Off Easy sneak peek!

Here's a little bit from Getting Off Easy, the next in the Boys of the Big Easy series!

Playboy firefighter James Reynaud's whole world gets tipped upside down when a baby boy is abandoned on his doorstep. But that's nothing compared to the way he goes head over heels for his across-the-hall neighbor when he enlists her help with diaper duty!

Harper reached out to lift the baby, but just as her hand touched his back, James stirred.

She froze.

“PǴڱǰ?

His voice was husky from sleep, low and gravelly, and Harper’s belly flipped, heat sliding from her stomach lower, between her legs. They were in his bedroom. One of them was in bed. And that voice. And the nickname. She could hardly be blamed for her reaction.

“Hey, she said softly.

“You okay?

It was the middle of the night, and he was the one asleep with the thing that had just turned his life upside down, but he was asking about her? She never came to him with needs. He came to her. She nodded. “I thought I’d take him so you could get more comfortable.

He looked down at the baby, and seemingly instinctively, his hand slid from the baby’s butt to his back. James’s hand was huge on the tiny baby, and Harper swallowed hard at the sweet picture. “He’s okay.

“You sure? I don’t mind.

He looked up at her. He was clearly still sleepy, maybe not fully awake. “You wanna help? he asked.

She nodded. “Yeah. She felt terrible for leaving earlier. It had gone against every instinct except the one that screamed at her to protect her heart no matter the cost. But she was afraid she was far past the point of that being possible.

“Then come here.

Harper wet her lips. “Come there?

“Yeah. He reached for her with his free hand and caught her around the wrist, tugging her forward.

She could have easily pulled back, broken free, resisted. But she let him urge her onto the mattress.

Harper knelt with a knee next to his hip. “How does this help?

“Gets you up against me, he said, his voice still sleep roughened.

Her heart skittered. “That’s helpful?

“Can’t imagine how it will hurt. He gave her a sleepy, but still devastatingly sexy smile. “This way you’re here if he does need something.

Well, he had a point.

Harper stretched out on the mattress beside James. He put his arm up above his head again, not holding her, but definitely exposing plenty of surface area for her to be up against.

Oh, what the hell. She wouldn’t sleep well at her place now, wondering what was going on over here. This way she was very much here for whatever went on. And she’d wanted to be up against him for a few months now. Lord only knew what the next few days were going to bring with the baby and everything. She might as well enjoy this moment while she had it.

She scooted closer. His body was hot and hard. She swallowed with some difficulty.
Then the baby made a little grunting sound and curled and stretched against James.

This was so not how she’d ever pictured being in bed with James Reynaud. That was for sure.

Oh...Fudge

“You made me fudge?

Dammit. He looked pleased by that. He was so going to get the wrong idea. Especially when she told him the whole story. She sighed.

“Yeah. I made it around Christmas. I was going to mail it to you but then I changed my mind.

“You were going to send me fudge for Christmas? he asked, his grin growing. He lifted a hand to her cheek.

“Yes. But then I realized that you’d think it meant I liked you and was thinking about you, she said with an eye roll.

“Oh, sweetheart, he said, his voice dropping and that drawl becoming more pronounced. “I know you like me and have been thinking of me.

He was cocky. A little. Not overly. Not obnoxiously. But enough to be hot. She did like confident men. “Well, you can not think that the fact that it’s chipotle fudge means anything, she said.

His grin definitely grew with that. “You made me spicy fudge?

“Spicy and sweet go together really well.

He nodded, his grin turning into an almost smirk. “They sure do.

“But it was just something I wanted to try, and since you eat all that crazy spicy food I thought you were someone I could send it to.

“But then you realized that I’d think it meant you liked me.

She blew out a breath. “Yeah.

“Do you normally make chipotle fudge?

“N.

“Hܳ.

“You’re thinking it, aren’t you?

“That you like me? Yeah, I’m thinking it.

Only one more week!

Oh, Fudge, the Christmas novella that crosses over between the Hot Cakes series and Boys of the Bayou series is almost here!

“P.

She loved the way he said her name. Low and needy. The deep voice combined with the slow Louisiana drawl made heat pool in her belly and then slide lower, making her feel achy and tingly.

She was aware of every bit of her clothing rubbing and pressing and she wanted to tear them all off. She needed to be naked. She needed to be free to wrap herself around him and feel every inch of him against every inch of her. She wanted his hot skin and his possessive hands and his wet mouth and

“P!

That wasn’t a deep moaning sound. That was a sharp whisper.

Paige’s eyes snapped open.

Piper Barry, a friend and one of the women in her afternoon yoga class, was staring at her with wide eyes.

Paige abruptly came back to the moment.

And the yoga class she was teaching. Or that she was supposed to be teaching.

Damn. She’d gotten caught up in dirty daydreams about Mitch Landry.

Again.

Must Love Alligators

“I didn’t know you were attracted to me.

“Bullshit, he chided.

Finally, she gave him a half-smile. “Okay, maybe I thought you were a little. But I think I thought that I was just the first girl who hadn’t fallen at your feet and you were determined to figure out what that was about.

He nodded slowly. Interesting that she’d realized that about him. “That was part of it. At first.

“I knew it.

“But just at first, he said. “I’ve been thinking about you for six months. He thought about his next words and decided that this confession was important. “I haven’t been with anyone since that crazy night when I made a total ass of myself with you and we had the most awkward non-kiss ever.

She blushed, but still looked intrigued. “You haven’t? she asked softly. “Really?

“Really. And, trust me, that’s unusual.

She arched an eyebrow. “Oh, I trust you on that.

He chuckled. “You’re not my type. I didn’t even kiss you. But I can’t stop thinking about you. So I’m pretty glad you’re here and pretty glad you were hoping to see me.

“You’re not my type either, she said. But she sounded just puzzled by that. “But maybe that’s why I wanted to come and see if that feeling was still here.

“What feeling? His voice was a little gruff without him even trying.

“The feeling of I-want-more-of-that in spite of knowing that didn’t make any sense."

Sneak Peek at Gimme S'more!

An hour later, he was standing outside her hotel room door.

“Piper! It’s me! He pounded on the door with his closed fist. Again. He’d already knocked. Then pounded. Now he was pounding again and wondering how much he’d have to pay the hotel manager, Stan, to get a key to Piper’s room.

They had the only two suites on this floor so he wasn’t bothering anyone else with his yelling. He could maybe get the heavy lamp by his window and knock her door down. That would probably bother Ken, but Ollie could deal with that later.

“P—

Her door swung open in the middle of her name.

Piper stood there staring at him with wide eyes. “Somebody better be in the hospital or you’d better be bleeding from a major artery.

He heard what she said. But he couldn’t process an answer. Because Piper was standing in the doorway in a robe, with her hair wrapped up in a towel on top of her head.

The robe was black. And silky. And short. Very short.

It wrapped around her and tied in the front, as robes did, and created a deep V between her breasts.

Her gorgeous, very generous—and did he mention gorgeous?—breasts.

Ollie was a little clueless—even he would admit that—but he wasn’t dead. Which meant that he’d noticed Piper’s very generous curves long ago.

The way she dressed would have made it impossible not to. Her dresses were bright and unusual and even the ones that didn’t hug her hips and ass, caressed her breasts. She also drew attention to all those curves with big belts and bright scarves and other accessories.

The woman liked to draw attention to herself and he always happily gave it.

This robe was nothing like any of those dresses. It wasn’t brightly colored. There were no earrings, no wedge heels, no bows. Just a lot of silk—both in the robe and the skin that stretched below the short hem.

He’d never seen her dressed like this. Not in any of the five years he’d known her. She was always put together, perfectly coordinated, looking kick ass, and untouchable.

Now she looked very fucking touchable.

Except for the look on her face. And the way she propped her hand on her hip.

“Oliver, she said firmly.

His gaze lifted to her face. Away from her legs.

Damn, the girl had some great legs.

That shouldn’t be a new revelation. She wore skirts and heels every day. He’d definitely noticed her legs before.

But there was something about this robe or her hair being up in a towel or the way she smelled or this doorway or he had no idea, but this was different. Her legs had never looked like this.

“Oliver, she said again, snapping her fingers in front of his face.

“W󲹳?

What? she repeated. “You’re beating on my door, scaring the hell out of me, making me get out of the shower to come see what was wrong with you, and you’re asking me ɳ󲹳?

Ollie and Piper are coming soon!

Gimme S'more, the sixth (and last) book in the Hot Cakes series is coming next week!!

Piper Barry was in love with an amazing, brilliant, funny, good-looking man.

Who, at least twice a day, she wanted to smother with the stuffed dragon that sat on the corner of his desk.

Okay, maybe not smother. That was extreme.
But duct tape over his mouth? Oh yeah, she thought about that often.

“Is spit better than snot? Oliver Caprinelli, that man—and her boss—asked her as she crossed his office to refill the water pitcher by the window.

“In every single context, yes. Piper was also aware that in any other workplace with any other boss, that question would be strange. Here though, not so much.

On her way back past his desk, she set the two folders and the manila envelope she carried in front of him. He was just one of her five bosses and the least likely to open those folders or that envelope. She put them down anyway.

“Grant said that a soda flavor called unicorn piss wouldn’t sell well, Ollie said, almost as if he was thinking out loud.

He did that a lot. Thought out loud.

That never stopped Piper from chiming in though.

“And you think that calling it unicorn snot would make it sell better?

This wasn’t even the strangest conversation she’d ever had with Ollie.

“Wouldn’t you assume that unicorn piss or snot tasted good?

She wrinkled her nose. “N.

“Why not?

“Uh, piss and snot.

“But unicorn, he insisted.

“I have never, not once, thought about the taste of unicorn anything.

“Well, think about it now. Yes, good?

What she thought was that working for Oliver Caprinelli would be a lot better if he didn’t think out loud.

If he just sat there looking cute, things would be great.
