Refilling My Well

With next year's women's fiction book turned in and release month for A Daughter's Truth not in my rearview mirror, I'm getting to sit back and enjoy a little bit of summer before it's time to start writing again.

For me, these rare non-writing breaks are a great time to refill my personal well. I still work out most mornings, but on the mornings I don't, I give myself permission to sleep in an additional thirty minutes. When I do get going, I take a little more time with my daily gratitude journal before firing up my computer for my morning social media routine. But the best part is the time to read... Now, instead of just reading at the gym, I'm reading there and again in the afternoon and I'm actually using those different reading spaces to read different things. In just the past 10 days, I've read three books and I'm about 30 percent through a fourth. I'm getting to try out writers I've been wanting to read for a while--books that call to me from bookshelves with the promise of an escape.

I feel lighter during these breaks. Like my mind is freer, my thoughts quieter. This is a good, I've learned, as it slowly starts my writerly gears clicking--bits and pieces of characters and plots that bubble just below the surface, luring me closer, to figure out where they might lead.

This afternoon, alone, I sat on my back deck and jotted notes for what will be my 2021 book. And while I've still got a lot of things to figure out, it's beginning to form into something real, something intriguing.

I love summer.

Getting closer...

As of the writing of this post, we're just 2 weeks away from the June 7th release of Éclair and Present Danger (book # 1 in my new Emergency Dessert Squad Mysteries).

I just got back from the post office where I mailed off packages to the winners in my recent Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ Giveaway.

I get awfully excited every time I think about this book coming out. I had so much fun writing it and can't wait for my readers to immerse themselves in the antics of Winnie Johnson, her friends, and her new dessert squad.

I'll be touring a little during launch week, visiting Evansville, Indiana...St. Charles/St. Peters, Missouri...and Scottsdale, Arizona.

If you live in the vicinity of any of these areas, please check the event section on my website (my name dot com) for specifics.

And for those not in the vicinity of any of these areas, my virtual tour via Escape with Dollycas will kick off June 1st and run until June 12th.

Lots of fun stuff coming up, that's for sure.

Hugs,
Laura

The Countdown to Eclair and Present Danger

We're just under five weeks now until the release of Éclair and Present Danger, the first book in my new Emergency Dessert Squad Mysteries.

This means I've been pretty busy lately trying to get the word out. I've been penning guest blogs for launch week, booking travel for launch week (the events page on my website has all the details of when/where I'll be), doing fun countdown things on my Facebook Author page, and mailing out packets to various giveaway winners.

Busy, busy...

Better Late Than Never

Although I've been at this fiction thing for eleven years now, I've been a little slow to some of the social media/online venues.

I embraced Facebook years ago and you can find me there every day--sharing stuff about my writing, my books, my life.

I have a Twitter account, but I'm not a great Tweeter. I'm just not sold on the format.

Over the summer, my oldest daughter convinced me to try Pinterest and while I don't spend a ton of time there, I can see why, if I allowed myself, it could be addicting. So I don't go there too often.

As for Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ, I've had a reader profile for quite a few years, but never really did much with it (as you can see by my lack of recorded books read--I'll be working on that). But yesterday, I decided to try and "get with the program" as my aunt is fond of saying and make the leap into Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ Author.

So here I am.

Granted, I might be a bit clueless (with "might" being an understatement) at the moment, but I hope to figure it out.

My first big thing? Doing an Ask The Author about A Churn For The Worse this week. So if you have a question, ask me there. It'll make me feel like someone is actually reading my profile... :)
