I was born and raised in suburban Boston. My mother’s death, when I was eight, was the defining event of a childhood that was otherwise ordinary. I took piano lessons and flute lessons. I took ballroom dancing lessons. I went to summer camp through my fifteenth year (in Maine, which explains the setting of so many of my stories), then spent my sixteenth summer learning to type and to drive (two skills that have served me better than all of my other high school courses combined). I earned a B.A. in Psychology at Tufts University and an M.A. in Sociology at Boston College. The motivation behind the M.A. was sheer greed. My husband was just starting law school. We needed the money.

Following graduate school, I worked as a researcher with the M

But then, how do you not?

I'm still in the opening stages of this book, and it could totally change by the time I'm done, but, for now, there you have it.(less)

Each of my books (like my sons) is different; I love each and every one of them, albeit for different reasons. For instance, I love FOR MY DAUGHTERS because it evokes memories of my mother; I love COAST ROAD because the heroine is in a coma through 9/10 of the book, which made it a challenge to write; I love BLUEPRINTS because of Caroline's Dean. I could go on and on, but you get my drift.

As for my own reading, my tastes are eclectic. I have favorites only until the next one comes along. Same with authors. I like reading both veterans writers and debut ones. A well-written book, regardless of the author, is a joy.(less)

What Zoom And Photography Have In Common

Have you ever looked at a family photo, really looked at it, and wondered why various members pose the way they do where they stand vis à vis the group, whether their arms are around others shoulders or around themselves, whether their heads are inclined toward their kin or away?

How we choose to stand says a lot. This is the psychology of photography.

I’ve always been intrigued by it, and no won
