Musings From the Coffeehouse
Greetings! Welcome to my inaugural blog: Musings from the Coffeehouse. You might wonder, why a coffeehouse? Perhaps the choice reflects the fact I do the bulk of my writing from a window table at my neighborhood Starbucks. Or because I’m addicted to coffee and wonder if I could write without it. Or even because my hope for this blog is a tasty, go-down-easy blend. Of this and that: personal writing news and industry tidbits; observations on pop culture, including books, movies and whatever’s on Page One; a peek into this writer’s life and finally, a dash of shameless self-promotion.
Today I thought I’d share an Authors are Real People, too story: My hubby and I had to attend an elegant anniversary party for one of his important clients. It was held at a downtown hotel and we had to get super-dressed up. Which meant high heels, which I love but my feet despise. I found a sexy pair that actually felt pretty good on my size tens at T.J.Maxx. Cute, comfortable and cheap? Seriously a miracle.
So at the party, mingling with all these beautifully dressed people, I noticed another woman's gorgeous shoes; they had a bright red underside I could see when she walked. I have since learned they are designer Christian Louboutin, those red undersides his trademark.
Finally home, I took off my “Maxxinista spike heels and see that the bottoms of my shoes are eye-catching as well. Both sport big, bold T.J.Maxx $19.99 stickers. My husband laughed and assured me that no one had been able to see the bottom of my shoes. I--and Christian Louboutin--know differently, but I kept my mouth shut. Until now, of course.
