Musings From the Coffeehouse

Greetings! Welcome to my inaugural blog: Musings from the Coffeehouse. You might wonder, why a coffeehouse? Perhaps the choice reflects the fact I do the bulk of my writing from a window table at my neighborhood Starbucks. Or because I’m addicted to coffee and wonder if I could write without it. Or even because my hope for this blog is a tasty, go-down-easy blend. Of this and that: personal writing news and industry tidbits; observations on pop culture, including books, movies and whatever’s on Page One; a peek into this writer’s life and finally, a dash of shameless self-promotion.

Today I thought I’d share an Authors are Real People, too story: My hubby and I had to attend an elegant anniversary party for one of his important clients. It was held at a downtown hotel and we had to get super-dressed up. Which meant high heels, which I love but my feet despise. I found a sexy pair that actually felt pretty good on my size tens at T.J.Maxx. Cute, comfortable and cheap? Seriously a miracle.

So at the party, mingling with all these beautifully dressed people, I noticed another woman's gorgeous shoes; they had a bright red underside I could see when she walked. I have since learned they are designer Christian Louboutin, those red undersides his trademark.

Finally home, I took off my “Maxxinista spike heels and see that the bottoms of my shoes are eye-catching as well. Both sport big, bold T.J.Maxx $19.99 stickers. My husband laughed and assured me that no one had been able to see the bottom of my shoes. I--and Christian Louboutin--know differently, but I kept my mouth shut. Until now, of course.

Welcome to the coffeehouse!

Sue too funny!! looking forward to many more!!

i have a funny story too...might make you feel a little better...my husband and i were given a gift of a nights stay at a very upscale hotel in the area..we pull up front in our toyota (hint, we are not upscale, lol)and are immediately swarmed by valets and others (their title?) any way, "oh sir let me help you" "ma'am, right this way please" all the while my husband is doling out tips as fast as he can..finally we are on our way in to check in...here comes another one, we look at each other as to say "now what could they want?" ...he reaches down and pulls a dryer sheet that is peeking out of my husbands trouser leg!!! hahaha, oh well, we might not be upscale, but we're clean!

Sarah Butland LOL No one would dare say a word or think less of you for this, not if they realized they'd end up in your next story as a victim of circumstance!

I love that you'd share such a story with your fans. So humble and giving.

Thanks for writing and reading,

Sarah Butland

Mandi This is too funny! It's nice to hear that silly, embarassing things happen to everyone else, too. Ha ha! I look forward to many more stories from the coffeehouse.

Janet Totten At least it was on the bottom of the shoe and not a tag on the back of your dress! LOL

message 14: by Alabama Anthony (new)

Alabama Anthony Still not as bad as the day I overslept, got dressed in the dark so I wouldn't wake my wife, and showed up at work barely on time. I thought I had done well until a coworker noted that I had managed to button up my shirt while wearing it inside out!

Janet Totten Darn - Not amused ... NO COFFEE !!! LOL

I have been working on my reviews and have one burning question - For those who read Forbidden Fruit, did they not get the story at all? I for one think it's a well done story about weaving webs of lies to keep your past a secret and how just one person, one thing, can bring that all crashing down, but the ones that truly love you, see you through it .. Oh well, back to the grind .. LOL Oh! I made a pun!!!
