Richard Raley was born and raised in Fresno, California and even still lives there on account of the city being an evil vortex you can't escape. He grew up on Star Wars, Transformers, Legos, and Everquest--he never escaped them either. His rise to fame/infamy began with "The Foul Mouth and the Fanged Lady", the first book of THE KING HENRY TAPES, an Urban Fantasy Series that has been described as "Harry Potter meets Pulp Fiction". ...more

This being said I just completely a shorter side novel in the series called "King Henry and the Three Little Trips" that is about 200 pages long and might write a few more of them if I get the urge.

“Poug turned to look at me with his most serious expression yet.  “Tell me . . . Robb Stark avenges the death of his father, yes?  The tyrant king Joffery is slain?  The beautiful Sansa is rescued unmolested?â€ “Oh,â€ I said, realizing I had Season One of Game of Thrones on the phone.  Oh, I thought as I remembered how fucked up that show was.  How do you break that to someone?  It was Santa Ain’t Real kind of revelation.  You lie, that’s what you do.  Even if you suck at lying.  “Sure . . . humans are known for their happy endings.  We just . . . love them.â€ “Good!â€ Poug proclaimed in joy, “As it should be!”

“Fantasy is escapist, and that is its glory. If a soldier is imprisioned by the enemy, don't we consider it his duty to escape?. . .If we value the freedom of mind and soul, if we're partisans of liberty, then it's our plain duty to escape, and to take as many people with us as we can!”

P.J. Thanks for the friendship!

Tracy Thank you for the friend invite. We have many influences in common. I grew up on Star Wars too, and Frank Herbert is a big inspiration for me. I always visited Fresno a couple times for my job. The organization's headquarters was there, but I lived in Chico. We Chico employees always dreaded anything that would take us to Fresno. There's lots of nice people there, but I suppose you are right about the evil vortex thing. It's not the place that inspired any California Dreamin'. It's very close to the majesty of Yosemite though.

Jason Halstead Great description - I was thoroughly amused!

I've never been to Fresno but I assure you that there are many evil vortexes out there that behave similarly.
