Free download for Nanyang
There will be a new opportunity to download my novel Nanyang for free on the three days from January 23 to 25.
Nanyang was awarded 5 stars by
reviewer Kathryn Manifacier on the Amazon site who said: "Superb! Weaves lively fictional characters breathing human interest and personality into the hefty historical tapestry that is an account of the development of the south seas. Good read."
Nanyang has previously been given three 4 star reviews (Amazon and Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ) as well as a Historical Novel Society review which described it as "a sprawling narrative" and "an epic, engrossing story".

Free Download
To mark my return to a computer after a long spell in hospital and nursing home following a nasty fall, leading to a hip fracture, I am making my book Thelust of comrade Lu available for free download from its Amazon website from December 19 to 21 (three days).
In The Lust of Comrade Lu I revisit Hong Kong-China relations 39 years after my first novel, The Peking Payoff, was published in hard cover by Macmillan Inc, New York.
It is very relevant to current devlopments in Hong Kong but is not a sequel in terms of protagonists. While it focuses on Hong Kong-China relations, it is mostly about a woman who loses the love of the man she adores, is pursued by a man she reviles and dies in a shocking and bizarre manner.
If you would like to know more, see the description at

The Lust of Comrade Lu
I have just published a new work, The Lust of Comrade Lu foreshadowed in an earlier post as an Amazon e-Book. In this book I revisit Hong Kong-China relations 39 years after my first novel, The Peking Payoff, was published in hard cover by Macmillan Inc, New York.
But The Lust of Comrade Lu is not a sequel in terms of protagonists. While it focuses on Hong Kong-China relations, it is mostly about a woman who loses the love of the man she adores, is pursued by a man she reviles and dies in a shocking and bizarre manner.
If you would like to know more, see the description at
and click on the cover to read the first chapter.

Reunion
[This is an updated version of the original post.]
Reunion now has three reviews.
On the Amazon site, reviewer "wmo" gave Reunion Five Stars and said: "A very good read with characters you care about."
Also on the Amazon site, Geoff Woodland "enjoyed the story" and gave Reunion Four Stars.
His review is also on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ.
Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ reviewer Mikemodelf gave Reunion Two Stars.
I find it is especially liked by readers who have an interest in Indonesia.

WORK IN PROGRESS
I have started a new book a political adventure story in the style of my early works, like The Peking Payoff and The Seizing Of Singapore.
The new work has a complex plot as it is now envisaged so it will take me some time to get all the pieces properly into place. But I certainly don’t expect it to be a ten-year project like my South-East Asia saga Nanyang, which required considerable research.
(Nanyang is both an eBook
and 700-page paperback
)
I took time out from producing Nanyang to write a light-hearted action romp, The Unintentional Jihadi, a novella, and published it as an eBook.
But when I had finished creating Nanyang as a paperback with CreateSpace, I decided it was important to start thinking about a new full-sized novel while my mind was still in creative mode.
I found it interesting that the first idea that sprang into my mind revolved around the cultural and political relationship between Hong Kong and China. I continue to be fascinated by the historically-fashioned, sometimes fraught ties between the former British colony, where I lived for 15 years, and China, the history and politics of which I studied at University and wrote about as a foreign correspondent. Accordingly, it was probably not surprising that my thoughts steered in the direction of a new story centered on my old passion.
I look forward to weaving a tale that I hope will appeal to readers.
