Maybe by now you've gotten to the end where I give a lot of detail about what is factual and what is invented. I'm so glad you couldn't put it down! Basically, the entire frame of the story -- the friendships, the girlfriends, the work details, the historical context -- are all factual. I could have written the book as nonfiction, but I wanted to write love scenes and dialogue, and I really couldn't do that as nonfiction. So MOST of it is true. Again, the epilogue will give a fuller answer. Thanks so much for writing. (less)

I would so love to visit the future, to find out where all this crazy humanity is going.(less)

“One time they held hands while walking along the lake. Their joined palms felt like a fuse in an outlet, as if their touch was the source of everything that mattered, as if by doing this, holding hands in public, they'd be able to make better photographs and write better stories. Make better love. The power of those few minutes of not hiding felt like it could fuel an entire country.”
Lucy Jane Bledsoe, A Thin Bright Line

“You’ve been looking piqued all week.”
Lucy Jane Bledsoe, A Thin Bright Line

“Normally Lucybelle wouldn’t suffer a fool like this for a second, but tonight she sipped her drink and took refuge in the boredom of his soliloquy, wanting the dull patter to muffle her disturbing thoughts. They broke free anyway, her thoughts, flew overhead like a flock of anxious birds, darting here and there, checking the ceiling and corners for danger.”
