Were all citizens educated and literate, and all newspapers honest and unbiased, then it may be possible for the masses to govern themselves without the bureaucracy that stifles progress today.

I queried my friend, “The white race is far advanced beyond Red Shirt’s people, Holmes. I can see the advantage the Indians would have in being assimilated into American society, but what do they have to offer in return?�

We need their wisdom to maintain the delicate balance of man in his place in the natural world.�

My friend crooked his finger at me and bade me join him at the window. The streets were bustling with people and horse drawn vehicles, the London sky was shrouded in a yellowish-grey, poisonous atmosphere from the many smokestacks of homes, trains and factories.
“There is the result of science, Doctor,� he said pointing to the murky skyline. “I believe that I would gladly trade this version of ‘civilisation� for the blue skies and simple ways which the Sioux fought so desperately for. What say you?�
