Showtime?
The experience of women such as Fanny Hensel, who found it so hard to find a public platform, makes me all the more grateful for these upcoming events where you can find out more about the women I write about, and hear some of their wonderful music. You’ll need to book for the first three
7 th April 2016, 12 noon, Oxford Literary Festival (at the Weston Library)
17th May 2016, Fulbright Frontiers lecture: tea/coffee at 5pm, talk starts 5.30pm, at Rewley House, Oxford. Drinks in the bar afterwards!
17th June 2016, Concert (voice and lute), talk, and wine: 6pm at The Schott Music Shop, London
I’m also giving a talk for the Benslow Music Trust in Hitchin, in collaboration with David’s Bookshop of Letchworth on Friday, 22nd April, at 4.30pm, and a talk at the White Horse Bookshop in Marlborough, on Thursday 26th May at 7pm.
Looking further ahead, there will be a concert and talk at 11am (coffee at 10.50)Ìý focusing on the music of Caccini on Saturday, 6th August in St Michael’s Church, Sittingbourne.
And, looking even further ahead, I’m very excited about a plan for an event at Handel House (or more correctly these days Handel and Hendrix House) in 2017, again focusing on Caccini…fingers crossed for that one.
I’ll post more about the bookshop events nearer the time or do please get in touch if you’d like more details.
In the mean time, the book of songs by Johanna Kinkel has arrived now all I need is a friendly tenor!
