Hey everyone! Today I have something different to share with you. K.M. Robinson, my good friend & fellow author, has stopped by to answer a few questions about her upcoming Jack Frost retelling!

So, without further ado!

1) First, can you tell us a little about your upcoming book, The Revolution of Jack Frost?

The Revolution of Jack Frost tells the true story of Jack Frost and how he became a legend. It focuses on Jack and his girlfriend, Genesis, as they fight to survive inside the Globe against harsh weather and short seasons that consist of a few days of each. When the weather machine controlling the experiment that are unknowingly a part of is damaged and spins out of control, only one person can save them all—Jack. There’s also quite a bit of kissing and betrayal happening, wink wink.

2) What drew you to write a Jack Frost retelling?

I might have had a huge crush on Jack Frost in the Rankin/Bass stop motion animated movie when I was a kid. I was so mad at Elise for marrying the golden knight instead of Jack. I’ve always had a little bit of an obsession over his story…but the media turns him into a villain so often and it broke my heart. I always knew Jack Frost had another story to tell and once I jumped into the world of retellings, his story was pretty high on my list because no one else was telling in the YA world.

3) You’ve written a lot of fairy tale retellings. What is your favorite fairy tale that you haven’t retold?

When I write, I lean toward the fairytales people overlook, like Goldilocks or Little Miss Muffet. I won’t write the popular stories unless I have a major twist, like locking Sleeping Beauty in a Virtual Reality game she can’t “wake up� from. I’ve currently written major twists on a few of the biggest and most popular stories, but one I haven’t attempted yet is Beauty and the Beast—I still haven’t found a massive twist to it…although, my fans thing my Jaded Duology has some major Beauty and the Beast vibes happening and I can’t say I disagree, even though it’s clearly not a retelling.

4) What’s your favorite retelling that you haven’t written?

Asking me to choose a favorite is like asking me to pick a favorite book that I’ve written! Let’s just say if I’m recommending some author friends who do retellings, take a look at Annie Sullivan, J.M. Sullivan, Elle Beaumont, and Constance Roberts. Of course, if we’re talking about the one that influences me the most, it would have to be The True Story

of the Three Little Pigs by Jon Sciezka. It’s a picture book my class read when I was in elementary school and it introduced me to the world of twisted retellings and the fact that the “villains� might not actually be villains at all. It truly started me down this path to my dark, twisted retellings.

5) Thanksgiving is almost upon us in the US. Who would Jack invite to his Thanksgiving dinner that isn’t from The Revolution of Jack Frost?

Ooo, I love this one! I’ll stick to my other book characters so the list doesn’t get too long! Jack would definitely invite Dov and Auluria from Golden, as well as Jade and Roan from The Jaded Duology. I’m pretty sure he’d get along with Royce from Virtually Sleeping Beauty pretty well too, so I’m sure Royce and Rora would be on the guest list. I’m pretty sure Spider and Muffet from Along Came a Spider would be more Genesis� speed, so Jack wouldn’t have a choice there. I’m also thinking Gen would make sure Hansel and Annika from Sugarcoated were seated at the table. I feel like they’d also invite Celena and Merrick form The Siren Wars Saga, but it will have to be a sea-side dinner since it’s a  little hard for mermaids to come on land for meals. Of course, once you read the book, you’ll understand why this is such an interesting collection of people and you’ll know why there will likely be a bit of drama at this table *evil grin*

6) In The Revolution of Jack Frost, the weather changes all the time. What’s your favorite sort of weather?

Warm. Lovely. I don’t do cold weather. I only want to see a light snow on Christmas day and then not again until the following Christmas. Give me tropical and I’ll be a happhy lady!

7) Is anyone in The Revolution of Jack Frost based off someone you know in real life?

I tend to be very careful to avoid writing people I know into my books. I also had to be super careful not to let my two favorite movie versions of Jack Frost influence MY Jack Frost. I’m a big fan of Jack Frost (Rankin/Bass) and The Rise of the Guardians. My Jack does share some characteristics, but he’s also entirely his own…and has his own secrets.

8) If you could create your own snow globe to live in, what would be in there with you?

I’d like to take the advice of Flynn Rider from Tangled on this one: an island that I own, tanned and rested and alone, surrounded…by enough money to live comfortably, I don’t need a million piles of money hahaha But seriously, if I got to create my own little world, I’d want my social media, some books, tropical weather, a place to swim, some fun animals (my dogs�.also maybe some horses and dolphins and other cute, friendly creatures) and my camera. And places to do my photo shoots, as well as fabric to create

amazing costumes for my photo shoots. That would be the life!

9) Did you have to do any specific research for this book?

Yes, actually, I did have to do some research. My dad always liked watching those survival shows, so when I was younger, I was exposed to a lot of that which really helped while writing this story…a good chunk of it is about surviving out in the wild with only the resources they can find around them. Unfortunately, my dad’s random survival information, his own training (he’s not a survivalist, but he knows quite a bit about it) and the tv shows I used to hear in the background while do other things were not

enough to complete this book. I definitely had to do some studying, observing, and yes, I even had to ask my dad some questions to make sure I got everything right in the story. I feel like I know more than I ever wanted to know about surviving in harsh weather at this point haha

10) Who would be your best friend in The Revolution of Jack Frost?

Genesis and I would get along really well. We both have a sarcastic sense of humor, we take risks we probably shouldn’t so others don’t have to, and we’d totally explore the forbidden sectors together, even if Jack wants us to be all responsible and safe.
