Story so far....
So this year I started my journey as a serious author. I had dabbled with ideas a little in the past, and spent over 20 years writing songs and poems.
Short stories were a sensible way to begin.
I hadn't actually planned on writing a books worth of stories until I had my first responses from my first one, and was spurred on by the enthusiastic thumbs up I was getting.
Then, perhaps leaping off that encouragement, lots of ideas came to my mind, and I worked quite quickly on putting the time aside to get them down in story form.
That first collection has some very personal takes on the science fiction I have always read, with some standards like Death visiting an old man, and the classic carnival setting. I believe what I did with them was unique, but obviously someone may have read something that they tell me is similar. For now, as far as I know, the 10 stories stand alone as original.
So the experience of getting the stories out there, and the first responses I have got for them has been very exciting. I am absolutely loving the whole experience.
I am now most of the way through writing my first novel. I have got to the major climax of the book, so it's just ironing out the endings for the different characters. That's been a great journey too.
Like the short stories, I have learned that the book takes the story in ways you didn't plan. When you're writing, you realise that a particular character would go in "that" direction, rather than the one you originally laid out. All of that has been very rewarding.
For this novel, the speech and characterisation of the main characters has been a major element to the novel. An obvious thing to say, perhaps, but with this one there was quite a lot of contrast between the humans and the native aliens....or at least that was my goal.
Anyway....please check out my short story collection called "Ten Tales of Tranformation" Ten Tales of Transformation and look out for the novel that will be out soon.
