Scythe Rowan Even IF the American South was the southern part of the USA, I don't think that books from 2018 (Where the crawdads sing, Florida) and 2019 (Long Live the Tribe of Fatherless Girls) are still new

Yaaresse Since when is western Texas part of the (US) south? "Federally defined" or not, that's laughable both to west Texans and actual southerners.

As defined by the U.S. federal government, it includes Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.

As defined by wikitravel.org: States = Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia & West Virginia.

Note: Texas and Florida are southern states, but are distinct regions in their own right. Oklahoma is also often considered southern, though it is on the Great Plains. Eastern and Southern Maryland have a distinctly Southern culture, as does "Slower Lower" Delaware (Kent and Sussex Counties), but the rest of these states fall firmly in the Mid-Atlantic region.

So I guess it depends on whom you ask! 😊
