What Members Thought

In this novel a teenage boy who is “not really Jewish is sent to concentration camps one year before liberation, and barely survives.
Told in a first-person, rambling, almost stream-of-consciousness style very different from the more usual journalistic style. It was an effort to follow his thoughts at times, but certainly worth reading.

The detached effort of a young boy to rationalise the events of the holocaust, bring a fresh and disconcerting approach to our appreciation of what happened. It is chilling, horrific and sometimes even comical story of how the extermination of the Jews could be as successful as it was. This book is a must read, it definitely justifies its inclusion in the list
