Abigail Ford asked Liz Johnson:

Hi Liz! Just wanted to say, first of all, you are an amazing writer. I have read all of the Prince Edward Island Dreams books, and love them! You made me fall in love with PEI without ever visiting, bravo. My question is: do you form your characters based on real people, or do they come straight from your imagination? Or a little of both? Thanks Liz!

Liz Johnson Hi Abigail,
Thanks for your question. I'm delighted that you've fallen in love with Prince Edward Island. I did too, and I love sharing this amazing province with readers.

My characters are entirely original. I don't write people I know into my books. I'd hate for someone to recognize herself and be offended. :) But I do use quirks and traits and personal stories to add to my characters. In one of my romantic suspense books I wrote a pregnant character who shook her cup of ice to indicate that she wanted more water, which is something that my sister did with her first pregnancy. When she read that, she called me and laughed about it. It was clear the character wasn't her, but that human interaction made the character more alive, and I loved remembering that summer I spent with my sister.

I will say that of all my characters, Caden is most like me. I see so many of my own insecurities and hangups in her, which made writing her both a wonderful challenge and really rewarding. And I love that my mom and sister both have said how much they love her. It's like hearing that they love me. :)

Thanks for reading!
