On a few occasions Miss Pym reflects on a relationship she'd had with an "Alan" in her early twenties. All we're told of him is that he had a prominent adam's apple, holey socks, and favored dusty snugs on dates. Did Tey ever clarify if the young Miss Pym's Alan was Alan Grant?

willaful I can't believe Alan Grant would ever be that unappealing. ;-)
Phil Since Grant was described in one of the novels as being neat and trim in his appearance, I can't see him wearing socks with holes in, even in his youth!
Thomas Alan may be Alan Grant, Josephine Tey's star detective in several of her novels.
Greg Not sure, but great idea!
