What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Kristen R. Ghodsee Don’t do it for the fame or for the money. Most likely, you won’t get either. Write because you love the written word, and because you have something to say to your fellow human beings. A corollary to this might be: don’t quit your day job. As you get older, the bohemian existence of the young aspiring writer will wear, and you will require stability. I know that everybody tells you to follow your dreams, but as a parent, I advise that you also develop a decent backup plan. Unless you plan to marry into extreme wealth, or have your own trust fund or a steady patron, consider pursuing a profession that will allow you to write while also paying your Pacific Gas & Electric bill.
