Being an author seems like a rewarding career but also hard. How did you decide to write full-time?
Sarah Dessen
My first book came out in 1996, and I didn't write full-time until 2005. I was a waitress, then a lecturer at UNC-Chapel Hill, also writing when I could it in. It was kind of scary to make that leap to ONLY writing, taking it that seriously. But at the time I did it, I was ready. I wanted to see what giving my full attention to my novels could do, and I've never been sorry with my choice.

From an authors perspective, would you recommend reading a book before seeing the movie adaptation or watching the movie first? I loved How to Deal but after I read Someone Like You and That Summer, I found myself being a little disappointed with the movie! I'm looking forward to seeing The Fault in Our Stars (I know you're a John Green fan!) but I don't know if I should read the book first!. Thoughts?
