Yes. I thought it was a bit of a cop-out. The author didn't know where else to go and wrote THE END. But up till then it had been so wonderful that it hasn't stopped me re-reading it several times, and recommending it to anyone who is going to/likes the Cinque Terre.

I was the first time I read it, I really wanted to know more! But the second time, it wasn't so shocking, I think I because I already knew and loved the characters I enjoyed reading about them from the beginning, whereas it took a little while to warm up the first read through.
