I see that this book is shelved as sci-fi, can someone tells me the sci-fi elements this book has and if it's worth the read? It sounds really interesting but I don't love sci-fi heavy books.

The sci-fi element presented in the book are these people called "Atypicals", that each have a presenting power. The protagonist, Caleb, is an empath, meaning that he can sense the emotions from those around him. The book isn't so much sci-fi focused as much as it's about Caleb's relationship with Adam, a boy from school whose emotions always seem to swallow Caleb.
So, if you don't love sci-fi heavy books, I think this one is a perfect choice.
