I feel like the authors had three ideas for books, but instead of fleshing the other two out (Corrie & Constance's threads) they just braided them into this. I think those stories could have been fleshed out as stand alones, or could have been included in a book of novellas. Pendergast's story was riveting, and any time there was a shift, it was jarring. Not that I don't like the other characters, or found them boring... they just didn't fit.
