Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Erica Spindler My neighborhood backs up to worried wetlands that lead the Lake Pontchartrain. One winter day, walking my dog I noticed a spot of bright red peeking out the muddy embankment of a ditch. Intrigued, whenever I drove or walked by, I would look for the spot of red. Finally, I had to find out what it was. Armed with a shovel and wearing rubber boots, I went to find out. I unearthed a red, ladies, high-heeled pump. The hair at the back of my neck prickled. (I call this a Dark Gift moment) How did this shoe end up buried in our embankment? The suspense writer in me knew, someone had dumped a body in the lake and the tide had done the rest. I had other jumping off places for THE FIRST WIFE as well, but it was the first and the most fun.
