Dear Ms. ViguiÃ©, I was wondering what gave you the idea for your story Midnight Pearls? I was also wondering who inspired the character Pearl? Sincere thanks.

Debbie ViguiÃ© I had a chance to pitch a fairy tale to a fabulous editor and I thought that The Little Mermaid would be a fun story to rewrite. I originally wanted to set the story in the modern day, but the editor wanted traditional fairy tale settings. To me I thought the coolest thing I could do was flip the story so that the mermaid was already cursed and unaware of it.
