Timothy Coplin asked Steven James:

I'm gripped by PAWN. I wanted to stop by and say thanks for proving that great literature involving the dark side of humanity can be written without filling the page with profanity. Kudos! Here's where I get to employ the mandatory question mark: how are you able to tap into humanity's dark side without being negatively effected by it?

Steven James Thanks for the comment and the question. Sometimes over the years the darkness has clouded in around me. It's part of the gig, I guess. I was so troubled when I wrote The Knight that I had to set it aside for a month or so. However, I think it's worth it. If people see the darkness more clearly they will also see their need for the light, and notice it more when it shines in their lives—even if it only appears as a glimmer at times.
