Lauren Evatt asked Morgan Rhodes:

My favorite character from your books is Magnus and I was wondering what influences helped inspire him? Thanks so much!

Morgan Rhodes Magnus, on paper, was originally supposed to be the bad guy...the son of the evil king who wanted to follow in his father's footsteps. Kind of a cross between Joffrey from Game of Thrones and Draco Malfoy. However, once I started actually writing him and getting in his head, he revealed to me that he wasn't totally bad and he yearned for more than what his father had laid out for his future. Plus, when I realized he had a scar on his cheek and I learned the reason for this (that played out on the page much to my surprise!) that definitely helped deepen his character and make him way more interesting for me to write. And since he's become a fan-favourite character, I'm happy I listened to the prince! ;)
