This serie"There will never be a day, a night, a minute, a moment, a breath where you aren't destructively mine. And I hope it fucking terrifies you.
This series is for people who love Gossip Girl for its messy and toxic nature. The relationships are complicated and based on lies. Everyone is morally gray: plotting and keeping secrets.
That being said, the crew is truly a ride or die gang. They may not always like each other. But they will always have each other's backs. It is amusing to watch this runaway train go off the tracks.
The format is a little odd at times, with some of the flashbacks close to the present timeline. It felt a little jumpy and lacking in buildup.
Nevertheless, the birth reveals were surprising. And I'm curious to see how the revenge plot goes moving forward, since none of them planned for a death to take place. I also want to see if the authors go the polyamorous route with a certain trio ...more

This book started rather slowly, but it eventually picked up once the romance kicked into gear in the latter half. I will say I did not feel as strongly about the intrigue aspect of this book as I did with its predecessor. However, I did enjoy peeling back the layers of Phoebe and seeing her find happiness with someone who loved her wholly for who she is.
Another highlight, aside from Phoebe's relationship with Sam, is Phoebe's relationship with her sister Karolina. Both are vastly different people. But they are both highly intelligent and insightful in their ways, and it was great to see them come to understand each other.

I wanted to love this. An adorkable giant of a man and a slightly jaded curvy female lead faking a relationship? Sounds promising. Alas, this book did not deliver anything great.
In fact, at times, it is downright preposterous. If you read the book you'll understand why I use that adjective. Anyways, onto the review.
The pacing felt off to me. We went from the FMC thinking the MMC was faking niceness to wondering if he offed his non-existent wife to her stepping in to defend his honor in a few quick chapters. From there, it felt like there was a lot more lust than there was love.
Beck is a sweet guy. He is both considerate and thoughtful. His past honestly had me appalled over the fact that no one ever stepped in to defend him when he was mistreated, but I also could not understand why he never did so himself. He's clearly capable. He proved time and time again that he is capable at just about everything.
Hazel is her own unique brand of confusing. Her thoughts were like watching an amateur trying to juggle. Somewhat amusing, a bit unfortunate, and leaving you wondering if you want to applaud them simply for the effort. She fell for Beck so darn quickly. Every tender act had her falling into a tailspin and I just wanted to tell her to sit, calm down and breathe.
I finished the book convinced these two definitely liked each other and had sexual chemistry, but I definitely wouldn't go as far as to say I believed they were in love.
And to me that is the main marker of a good romance book: I believe the couple is in love by the end of the book.
Sadly, that isn't the case here.

Jeremy and Cecily gave me enemies to lovers vibes the moment she stood up to him in book one.
Days later, I still go back and re-listen to parts of this book. It might enter the ranks of my comfort reads. Whenever I read interconnected standalones I always end up having one I come back to again and again. And for some reason, despite my occasional desire to smack Jeremy upside the head, I think this is that book for me in this series.
Jeremy is definitely the sanest of the MMCs I’ve read in this series. But when his competition is two different psychopaths and a guy who clearly suffers from manic episodes the competition isn’t too stiff.
Also, not sure what it says about me that one is the reasons I loved Jeremy is because of how jealous he is. The insecurity I could do without, but I loved when he was a little jealous of how loyal Cecily is to Creigh and Remi. And how he kept pointing out they weren’t her actual brothers despite their sibling like relationships.
I will say, I wish the ending wasn’t quite so rushed. They had a big blow up at the hospital, then there’s a time skip and suddenly in rom-com fashion one of their friends pulls a silly stunt to get them back together. I don’t hate it but I wish we could’ve seen more interactions between them before the final love declaration/reunion. ...more

Josh and Jules are fire on fire. Twin flames, if you will.
I inhaled their book. The banter and verbal sparing definitely kept things entertaining, and that's what I want from a romance book - to be entertained.
The third-act break up was annoying to say the least, but it fortunately wasn’t as unforgivable as everyone made it seem. Honestly, people had me convinced Josh is the worst but he’s truly not.
Was he an ass for what he did and said? Absolutely. But he was lashing out from a place of hurt so I understand it to an extent.

Is this book highly original and inventive? No. It's a book marketed as romantasy. And no matter what any says, most romantasy is derivative. So, for me, it comes down to if mood and execution come together satisfyingly.
I'd say this one did. I like Kierse, and I am intrigued by Graves. They're just two individuals with major trust issues slowly falling for each other in a monster-filled world. I ate it up.
Now I can see if you went into this book hoping for excellent, detailed world-building, and strong fantasy elements you might be a bit disappointed. I don't need a lot of details or visual cues because I am one of those people who don't see a movie in my head when I read, so it doesn't bother me.
Bottom line, I had a good time reading this book and I can't wait for the sequel....more

This book was essentially repeated rounds of banter, tension and ‘What is happening?
There were some solid moments and I did quite enjoy the final scene, but the book itself never quite felt flushed out to me. I especially didn’t understand Willow’s motivation. Her dad royally sucked so I see no reason why she should be so committed seeing his life’s mission through.
Honestly, after the torture he put her through I would’ve buried him in dirt.
She was certainly capable of it. Luckily, the man got his karma.
Still, the way things unfolded at the end didn’t make any of sense and honestly felt convoluted. But I’ll probably see this series through because I preorder I can’t cancel....more

In books like these, you need to suspend disbelief. You need to enter the romantic mindset. Logic is secondary. Fun, flirty chemistry reigns supreme.
Abi thinking she could camp out at a wealthy client’s apartment was wacky nonsense.
Declan asking an unknown home intruder to be his fake girlfriend and meet his family was highly illogical.
But damn if I didn’t have a laugh-out-loud hoot of a time.

I loved a good rivals/enemies to lovers office romance but I did not love this. It wasn’t simply ridiculous. I can forgive a lot when it comes to romance. It was boring.
I didn’t feel the tension or the chemistry, no matter how many times other characters in the story claimed it existed.
This book was race to the finish, not a fun way, in a I just kind of want this to be over way.
I’ve enjoyed this writing duos YA books before but I guess that doesn’t translate to loving their adult work. Definitely my biggest romance book disappointment this year.

I love a good workplace, friends to enemies/rivals to lovers romance. This book definitely fits that bill. Not to mention some delightful work-related forced proximity/fake dating. I loved that Eric never doubted his feelings for Grace. Eric was honestly pretty perfect. Sexy, smart, charming, supportive, and constantly pushing FMC to be her best. I don’t know how Grace held out for so long because I probably would’ve folded like a chair.
I took off one star because the main issue was the result of massive miscommunication. If FMC wasn’t so against confrontation their issues would have been resolved a long time ago.
That being said, this was an easy, fun read and I finished it in under a day.

This book was such an amusing case of mistaken identity. Toss is some mystery, intrigue, and spice and you get a delightful treat of a book.
I enjoyed this more than the author’s first book, which speaks to growth on the author’s part, so huzzah for that.
Overall, this book is a quick, easy read. It takes two individuals who have never fully felt comfortable in their skin on a journey to learn to step outside their comfort zones - to take a chance on each other and bet on themselves. It's a positively enjoyable time.
I’m excited to see what she’ll give us next.
