DNF at 30%. I started this because The Jewel had an evil cliffhanger and I really wanted to know what happened to the characters. Well, upon starting The White Rose, I realized that I remember NOTHING from the first book, which made it extremely had to remain invested in this book. So once I found out what happened to the characters, my interest took a nose dive and I knew it was time to put The White Rose aside.
If you enjoyed The Jewel, I highly recommend a quick re-read before jumping into this one.

That's a shame. I didn't really like the first book-it was too Selection-y for me, too much focus on pretty dresses-but like you I was very intrigued by that cliffhanger.

Yeah, not really worth it, IMO, unless you really loved the first one.
Good advice to reread the first. I loved The Jewel, so I'll give this one a shot.
This doesn't even feel like the same book series. I'm so disappointed in this book.
Great review, Steph. Sorry it didn't work for you ahaha. It can be hard to read a sequel when you haven't read the first book in a while.Also I agree with Harriet...this really did feel like a different book from the first, in a surreal and strange way.
As most people did I also only read The White Rose because of the cliffhanger at the end of The Jewel. I also found myself continuing with the series because at the end of the book it started getting interesting and lead again to another cliffhanger
