did not like it

So far I've been slightly annoyed by this book. First off the author has portrayed the characters as really 'country'.. like stereotypical redneck country. They say cain't and play the lottery but then the author uses words outside of dialect that don't quite fit such as: prodigious, portentous, flagitious, etc.. and it seems off.

Then the author writes sentences like: "The dog butted his hand in order to promote the proper human-dog social interaction of petting." In other words the dog rubbed against his hand!

I enjoyed this authors book "Veiled Eyes" but I've decided I can't finish this one. It may be good but I can't get past the crazy long unnecessary sentences and the yes'm dialect with the big words and the attempt at comedy that I don't see the humor in.

I tried but there are simply too many good books out there to endure this torture!

Pamelabyoung I don't think it's fair to give a review when you didn't finish the book. Just sayin'. I agree about not finishing a book that is not enjoyable, but if you want to write a review, I believe you have to endure the book.

I disagree. Reviews are peoples opinion and this is mine. There is no right or wrong to it. We all like and dislike our own things and for those who WOULD agree with me, they desrve to hear it. Why should they waste even one second or one penny if they would feel the same as I do?

That's the beauty of reviews. If you don't care for reviews perhaps you shouldn't read them :-)

And if you want to have to 'endure' a book in order to mark is as one you don't care for - HAVE AT IT! I believe that's a huge waste of time but hey - it's your time not mine!

Pamelabyoung I get what you are saying, but I do think it is unfair to an author to base your review of a book on reading only a chapter or two. A review implies you read the book and the stars can make or break an author. A review of a play indicates you have seen the whole play. A review of a restaurant means you have stayed for the meal. Someone on goodreads recently suggested that a person who wants to comment on a book they have not read should comment without giving a star rating. That sounds plausible to me. It's a free country, of course, but I hate to see an author's work negated without giving a full hearing. No offense intended, I just am always taken aback when I read a review that rates a book without having finished it.

Michelle I understand and if I hadn't given the book more than enough of a chance to turn around and spent enough time with my fingers crossed I'd be more inclined to agree.

I didn't just jump to this conclusion and then rate the book. And nowhere did I state I only read 'a chapter or two,' that's a conclusion you came to. I continued the book in hopes things would improve but they never did.

I knew at that point it wasn’t worth the continued effort for me so I was honest with my evaluation and in stating I wasn't able to finish.

Having said that - I believe my rating is more than fair and I stand by it.

And I did advise of a book by this author that I enjoyed.

Thanks for your input! :-)

Pamelabyoung Standing down. Happy reading!

Linda You missed out on the funniest murder mystery I have ever read. Can't wait to read the next one.
