did not like it

DNF - just not my kind of book. Didn't read enough of it to give a qualified opinion.

Bookuser (Orbuser) i am sorry.. i was hoping a better opinion for that book.. :p

Zach Westfall It definitely started slow, but by the end it was my favorite book of the year (tied with None Of This Is True) so far. But Dungeon Crawler Carl is gunning for the top spot for sure.

J.A.R. Huygebaert I love you Matt but why give it a one star if you "didn't read enough to give a qualified opinion"?

Because I hated it and reserve 1 stars to books I hate so much that I DNF. I'm holding off giving a full review though because I didn't read enough of the book to merit that - but it's absolutely a "1 star" for me.

Kyle Mark Looks like the "Book That Wouldn't Burn" just got... burned. Marky Larry ain't rising from those ashes. Alright, I'm done.

message 7: by Pete (new) - added it

Pete Morris Don't leave a review then if it's not your kind of book lol

message 8: by Kenneth (new) - added it

Kenneth I make it a point NOT to read book genres that I am not into...eg romance. I am still reading it and I understand it is a slow crunch, the creativity of it is what wows me. I took a break to read other books but I will definitely finish it.

Alexandru Pete, the problem is you don't know if it's your kind of book or not. Mark Lawrence is a well known and established fantasy author. So you'd expect a good book from him.

message 10: by LambchoP (new) - added it

LambchoP I got to about the 25% mark and had to give up. I think I'll come back to it eventually and read the physical copy rather than audiobook it. Was just far too boring for me unfortunately:(

message 11: by Lee (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lee Tran Really rude of you to say you didn't read enough to give a qualified opinion and still leave a 1 star review

message 12: by Patricia (new) - added it

Patricia Then don’t rate it .

message 13: by Chase (new) - added it

Chase Sears Hey matt that's exactly what happened to me!

message 14: by Jennifer (new) - added it

Jennifer That ain't right dude! Maybe take down your review if you didn't read enough to review! How inconsiderate!

message 15: by Fran (new) - added it

Fran Sánchez One star ratings are as important as any of the other when checking out a new book. This rating, on the other hand, is completely useless.

message 16: by LambchoP (new) - added it

LambchoP Totally agree Matt. I got to about the 25 percent mark and gave up unfortunately...I think Book of the Ancestor or Red Queens War will be more my jam:)

message 17: by Tia (new) - added it

Tia Lockhart I agree. I liked some of his other books, but this one read like a mystical young romance book, which isn't my thing, so I dnf'd it. Was boring and not interesting enough to finish. Dnf @ 38 %

Thomas This is awful why would you leave 1 star on something you've not finished?!

message 19: by Tom (new)

Tom You can't review it without having read it.

Chloe Frizzle Thanks for giving this 1 star even though you DNFed! It helped me find and pick up this one.

I also choose to rate my DNFs, because that's my opinion of the parts of the book that I read. I feel like people who say that you can't review a book without first finishing it are taking the reviewing process too seriously. It's about opinions, not objective facts, and you don't need to read every page of a book to develop an opinion on it. Perhaps if book reviews were factual ratings of the objective quality of the book then reading the whole book would be necessary, but that's really not the point; and kind of counter to the whole idea of personal taste in art.

I am curious tho, around what point did you DNF it?

Juliasreadingchronicles You can't then give it a star rating if you didnt read enough of it to give it a review! So silly.

message 22: by Yami (new) - rated it 5 stars

Yami wait for it....the end will make up for the boring side, I changed my mind when I reached the last chapters

message 23: by Abolfazl (new) - added it

Abolfazl "didn't read enough to have a qualified opinion" . rates the book one star :)

message 24: by Kim (new) - added it

Kim Gallant You didn’t read enough to give a qualified opinion and then left one star? Review foul! What a terrible thing to do to a gifted author. It ANY author.

message 25: by Mark (new) - rated it 4 stars

Mark Miles I like Matt and I enjoy watching his review. However, this kind of thing is annoying. Don't 1 star a book you haven't read!

message 26: by Raina (new) - added it

Raina Kenney I don’t know call me crazy but if you didn’t read enough to have a qualified opinion maybe you shouldn’t review the book?!

Isaac Bruner "I read 25% of it and I got bored so I gave it 1 star."

The first 25% is the worst part of the book though. It gets better and better as you go through. Plot twists 3/4 of the way through completely recontextualize the rest of the book.

message 28: by Alex (new) - rated it 4 stars

Alex Smith And yet you star rated it! Jfc

Jacques Du Bruyn You just did give your opinion.

message 30: by Kimberly (new) - added it

Kimberly Denesowicz Thanks for rating it! Gives us skeptical folks a real read on how many people DNF because they got bored lol
