2
Genre ~ police procedural
Series ~ Black Harbor #1
Setting ~ Wisconsin
Publication date ~ November 30, 2021
Est Page Count ~ 301 (30 chapters)
Audio length ~ 9 hours 6 minutes
Narrator ~ Angela Dawe
POV ~ single 1st
Featuring ~ debut, infidelity, dark elements
Hazel is the new overnight shift transcriber for the Black Harbor PD. She loves this shift because it means she doesn’t have to see much of her awful husband.
Hazel starts transcribing for Detective Nikolai Kole and they grow close. She helps him investigate The Candyman case and then they're falling for each other.
The infidelity is bad enough, but to text I love you to your husband 16 seconds before you whomp it up with someone else is on another whole level of sleeziness. Is the hub a douche himself? Sure is, but still doesn’t make it okay.
Anyway, I suppose there were some nice twists, but overall I wasn’t a big fan. I really only read it because I had agreed to read the second in the series before I knew this was part of one, and I hate to read out of order.
Narration notes:
While her overall performance was fine it was a bit rough listening to the recordings that she was transcribing because she said the words comma and period over and over and over again. But she did a good job differentiating her tone for each character, even the males.

I only read it because I have book #2 on my NG shelf from a while ago, so I'm hoping that one is much better.

Great review, Heather!"
Annoyingly yes! For all the transcriptions she did. Awful.

They really were! Luckily I’m not hating book 2.
