I had so much fun reading this. Beverly is one of the best female characters I have come across in a while. Actually, I can't say who I loved more, her or her mother. I love reading about such strong female characters who are both smart and funny. Their relationship is perfect.

The side characters are pretty great, too. I loved Bev's relationship with her dad, the dynamic between Bev and Michael, her feisty best friend Nancy, and probably my favourite grumpy Stuart. Loved the banter between him and Bev.

The story is set in 1962 and I really enjoyed the historical and political aspect of it, the Jewish representation, the humor, a bit of romance, and how the life of women was explored when it comes to marriage, parenting and career.

Imme van Gorp Awww I’m so happy that this had such an amazing female main character, and I love that her mother was so awesome too! I really feel like we should have that in books more often🩷🩷

Rosh ~catching up slowly~ Lovely review, Snjez! I hadn't been too sure about this one as the only book I have read by this author didn't work too well for me. But I am tempted to give this a go now. Glad you enjoyed it. 😊💗

I agree! Reading about characters like those two felt so refreshing. I'll definitely read more from this author. 😊 Thank you, Imme! 💕

Tamara I'm glad you enjoyed it Snjez! 😊

Judging by the blurb, this seems like it was heavily inspired by the TV show The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, it's worth a watch if you haven't yet 🧐

Thank you, Rosh! 💕 I had to check, it was She's Up To no Good? Guess I'll skip that one. 😉 I actually wanted to read For the Love of Friends or Don't Forget to Write first, but this one was nominated for the GR Choice Awards, so I picked it instead. Glad I did. 😊 Fingers crossed if you decide to give it a try!

Thank you, Tamara! 💕 Some reviewers mentioned the show in relation to this book, but I haven't even heard of it. 🙈 I'll check it out. Thank you for the recommendation! 😊

Pauline Oh wow, that sounds so good! And I’m always on the lookout for strong female characters that aren’t tropey! Great review Snjez 💕

Rosh ~catching up slowly~ Oh, sorry I made you look it up! I would have mentioned the name in my comment but I drew a complete blank. I think my head wanted to forget the experience, lol! I'd definitely not recommend that one.
This one, I'll keep an eye out for. :D

Thank you so much, Pauline! 💕 This book has such positive and uplifting vibes and I absolutely loved Bev's energy. 😊

LOL Don't worry about it! I always stalk my GR friends' shelves to check if they've read something or which books they've read by an author, so it was no problem at all. 😂 I will stay away from the book you didn't like, the premise also doesn't appeal to me personally, but I'll check out the other two. 😊

Teru Great review Snjez ❤️ strong female characters (particularly in a not-fantasy setting) are amazing to read about. And the whole family dynamics sound so precious!

Exactly! Even more so when the story takes place in the 60's, when women's position in society was so different from today. 🙂 Thank you, Teru! 💕

Drache.... (Angelika) Wow, TWO awesome female characters in one story ❤️ This sounds really impressive, Snjez. So glad you enjoyed it so much ❤️

Make it three. Her friend Nancy is pretty awesome, too. And a few minor female characters. 😅 Thanks so much, Angelika! 💗 This was my first read by this author and there will be more. 😊

Drache.... (Angelika) Yay even better! I haven't read anything by this author yet. I'm curious how you'll enjoy your next reads by her ❤️

~✡~Dαni(ela) ♥ ♂♂ love & semi-colons~✡~ Thus type of story isn't usually my cuppa, but you've convinced me. There's not too much romance?

Me, too! I'm skipping the one that Rosh didn't enjoy, plus the premise doesn't sound interesting to me, but I'm interested in the other two. 😊 We'll see. 🤞

I don't often read books like this, either - women's fiction, historical with lots of politics. 😉 But I mostly loved it because of the characters. There's not much romance, it's just a small part of the story. Zero smut. I'll be curious to see what you think of it! 🤞
