Mehul Jain (jainmehul) | 2 comments Could someone recommend a book similar to prince of thorns? I read it, and absolutely - absolutely loved it.

I have been trying to search on the net for 'dark fantasy' books, but these often result in 'horror' books.

thanks.

Colin | 9 comments try Joe Abercrombie the first law trilogy..great books very good characters..dark characters like torturers who you will love...give it a go.

Mark Lawrence (marklawrence) | 12 comments King of Thorns has certain similarities. It shares the same characters for a start...

Jason Curran | 1 comments Sorry but Abercrombie doesn't throw in spaceships with nuclear (or as we say in America, NUKE-YOU-LER) weapons out of the blue. ;)

Abbe | 1 comments I suggest The Last Four Things & The Left Hand of God by Paul Hoffman. Authors like Glenn Cooke & Paul Kearney are good choices as well.

Mehul Jain (jainmehul) | 2 comments Thanks all.. picked up 'best served cold' for now.. @Mark: King of Thorns, and Emperor of Thorns (whenever it releases) are definitely on my to-read list.
@Abbe: thanks :) added it to my to-read list.

Mark Lawrence (marklawrence) | 12 comments Emperor's out in August to round off the trilogy.

Nathan Washor (washor) | 1 comments And if you liked Prince you'll love King! Since you loved King, well? It's already out - go buy it and enjoy!

I haven't read it yet, but Glen Cook's Black Company may be up your alley. I hear that a lot. Abercrombie gets my vote too :)

Mark Lawrence (marklawrence) | 12 comments Emperor of Thorns is out in 2 weeks. It's also quite similar!

Colin | 9 comments 2 weeks....just in time for my 40th birthday Mark...was that intentional timing so that I knew what present to ask for?

TheDigressiveApproach Jim Butcher's Codex ALera series is pretty awesome. It's not really similar to Thorns but it's definitely one of my favourite fantasy series

Tgriffmt | 10 comments My two favorite series are Broken Empire and the Malazan Book of the Fallen. There's about 16 or so Malazan books which is cool. I always warn people that sometimes they might not be all into the first book. It's worth reading though because the rest are great.

Mark Lawrence (marklawrence) | 12 comments I guess it's seldom the goal of any author to write a book that's similar to any other - I even tried hard to make the three books in the trilogy different from each other.

Tgriffmt | 10 comments I take the post to mean more that "if you liked blank then you might like blank." For instance if you like Tool you'll probably also like Pink Floyd even though the two groups aren't similar.
