Personally I think everyone should achieve encouragement but that's just my thought.

Willow (wigglewigglewiggle) | 7 comments Hmm... I think that I would love to get ideas from other members and maybe do something where we all write one story together....

My groups needs members so badly.

@willowshine that's a great idea and that's why we have the creative and abstract writing thread.

Learn ways to connect with readers/reviewers. I connect all day long on Twitter with other authors who, like me, are also trying to promote their own work. Not a bad thing, but I'm finding we're so busy with our own writing, there's little time to read others material. But then again, I would never have read Cynthia Morgan or Mike Wells either and both have stuff worth reading.

That's very interesting. Yes we writers are so busy we never have time to read others. I do hope the group help to accomplish your goal.

Betsy Ashton | 2 comments I'm a little unclear. Are we to be cheerleaders encouraging each other to write on? Are we to promote each others' work? Are we to share marketing ideas to help us reach more readers?

All of them, it is a group to support writers in every way it can.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

I hope Betsy you took no offense to my comment, but I also belong to a local group and we do try to support each other in every way. I have met some wonderful people that intrigue me greatly and we do discuss aspects of marketing, albeit, each member puts into practice what they want.

Betsy Ashton | 2 comments Gracious, no, Anthony. No offense taken. I agree that with so many groups on GR and FB, it's hard to participate in many without sacrificing your writing time. I lead two local private FB groups where we work hard on marketing. I was hoping this wasn't going to ONLY a marketing group. I'm sure I'd learn new things, but would most likely sacrifice this group to those I current support heavily.

Abby Goldsmith (abby_goldsmith) | 2 comments What other indie author groups have you all found useful? I'm a member of Codex Online (they have a great indie author section), #IndiePubAustin, and I pop into the KBoards Writer's Cafe sometimes.

Abby Goldsmith (abby_goldsmith) | 2 comments Betsy wrote: "Are we to share marketing ideas to help us reach more readers?" I've got to admit, I probably won't participate here much. The lack of commas in the intro is off-putting. I want to be around authors who take their work seriously enough to learn punctuation, get beta readers, and go through rounds of editing.

But it's easy enough to join or leave groups on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ! And great to meet other indie authors.

I've completed five to-be-published SF/F novels. Currently editing Book 1 in preparation for publication. It took me years to let go of the idea of trad-pub, and I'm still intimidated by all the self-promo and marketing I'll need to do.

I want to meet like-minded, serious authors who take pride in the quality of their work, and who are also gearing up to publish a fiction series for the first time.

Oh am gearing up, so book1 would be your first published book?

I totally agree with Abby here. What is going to be the main objective of this group?

Like I said before, supporting each other which includes in everything an author must do to make he/her book published and get more readers.
This a group where we help each other's, authors that are just starting their work. There's a lot to learn from each other. Having a fellow writer critique your book is a gift.

How fantastic, Abby! It sounds like you're well on the way to make a great take-off! As for the amount of promo etc you need to do being indie, you'd still be doing a similar amount being trad-pubbed.

As for me, I'm tentatively thinking about going indie for my current ms which is nearing completion. I'm more and more keen on having control over the pricing in particular so I can make my books more attractive/competitive for readers. But I'm nervous too, so I think this group will be good for me :) Nice to meet you all.

Nice to meet you too. It is a great idea to make your books attractive and competitive for readers. That's all we always want. Have you heard of the Sola Fide publishing writing competition?
