Autumn (autumnmemory80) How many books did you challenge yourself to read in the 2013 Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ Challenge? I read 45 last year, but had to up my goal from 26. This year I set my goal at 40. What about y’all?

message 2: by Linda (new)

Linda (beaulieulinda117gmailcom) | 1403 comments I put 30 books and I'm already 5 ahead of schedule.

message 3: by Bill (new)

Bill Last year I said 75 and read 80ish. So this year I upped my challenge to 80 books. I've read 13 so far and have 2 on the go.

message 4: by Taylor (new)

Taylor I read 73 books last year so set this year's goal at 75. Already I'm panicking as I'm only on book 6.

message 5: by Shirley (new)

Shirley (shirleythekindlereader) I am trying for 100 this year and mostly Goodread Choice Award books.

I don't know how you do that, I get confused when I try that.

message 7: by Autumn (new)

Autumn (autumnmemory80) Right now I am trying not to panic because I have finished 2, but I am actively reading 4.

message 8: by Alley (new)

Alley (alleycatfish) My goal is 250. I'm up to 45 or 46 so far. Reading 3 right now - Murder on the Links by Agatha Christie, High Five by Janet Evanovich, and Night Embrace by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I should finish one of them today.

I have a lot of free time.

message 9: by Beth (new)

Beth (techeditor) | 1018 comments I don't do that. I'd rather enjoy every book I read and/or be informed rather than be ever mindful of how fast I can get through them so I meet my goal.

message 10: by Autumn (new)

Autumn (autumnmemory80) I do not start a new book with the idea of trying to read as many or as fast as I can. I will think, I will just read the introduction... well, I will just read the first chapter... then 1/3 the way in I am hooked. I also always have a book on audio in the car, one I started before the movie came out, and one I read off and on since Christmas.

message 11: by Jamie (new)

Jamie I set my 2012 goal for 26 books and read 28, so this year I upped it to 40. I'm already a bit ahead and I'm fairly certain I'll reach my goal. I dropped a few responsibilities mid-2012 that never really should have been mine and that gave me more time to read.

I find I do my most reading in the morning and then again at the end of the work day when I'm waiting for my store to close up.

message 12: by Taylor (new)

Taylor I set my goal for 60 books. I'm currently on track because I read about 5 books a month.

message 13: by Julie (new)

Julie | 7 comments I set my goal this year at 55. I have read 10 books so far. Last year I read 60 but I seem to be so much more involved with my kids this year thought I better lower my expectations :))

message 14: by Wendy (new)

Wendy I read 51 books last year and am only challenging myself to read 50 this year. I usually read one book every 5 days but I also take my time and give each book as long as is required to enjoy the book and to really understand it. I never rush when I am reading and have a hard time reading more than one book at a time.

message 15: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Corley | 1298 comments I went for 50 this year! I don't think I should have a problem with that, but we'll see. I go through spurts with everything!

message 16: by Ava Catherine (last edited Feb 12, 2013 08:38PM) (new)

Ava Catherine I set my goal for 300 this year.

Dear Lord, Connie! You are a brave woman! I wish I could say I read even 100 books in a year. Best of luck on your goal; you can do it!

message 18: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (littell77) I put 75. I just downloaded goodreads today so it says im behind but I've already read 4 books since January.

message 19: by Leslie (new)

Leslie I set my goal at 150 -- currently I'm ahead, having finished 43 books so far.

message 20: by Jaime (new)

Jaime Buncie (JaimeBuncie) | 3 comments I can't join in the challenge... I'm reading Lord of the Rings...again. Before I started that...again...I had read 5 books. It takes a long time to read LOTR. Plus I do proofs for a friend of mine on her stories, so I can't count those in the challenge... but good for everyone that did join and can actually take the time out to read as many books as you are!! Keep up the good work!!!

message 21: by Shelah (last edited Feb 14, 2013 03:52PM) (new)

Shelah (shelahkinnard) | 327 comments I challenged myself to read 75 books so far I have read 15 books and I am 6 books ahead schedule.

message 22: by Fairlee (new)

Fairlee Corkran | 5 comments I did 65 and I m one book behind.

message 23: by Linda (new)

Linda (beaulieulinda117gmailcom) | 1403 comments I have 30 book, I read 8 so far. I read bfore I go to sleep and read first thingin the morning before anyon else is up.

message 24: by Jamie (new)

Jamie I'm really in awe of all of you who have set a goal of 100+. I don't know how you do it! I get in a rut after I finish certain books, or I get caught up with things at home and reading gets a bit pushed off to the side. I really try and read each morning, but some days my brain just won't fully snap awake so I end up watching TV before work (today was one of those days. Maybe you guys read really fast? I probably read a page a minute.

I usually have a downstairs book and a bedside table book.. At one time I used to also have a bus to work book.. It can be confusing sometimes..

I have one that I listen to on audio at work and the one I have right now I messed my download up and couldn't download it at home so I listen to a different one when I'm cleaning or doing something that I can't sit down and read it. Then I read one either on my kindle or a book in the evening!

message 28: by Ava Catherine (new)

Ava Catherine I like to have at least a fiction or two and a nonfiction going at the same time.

I'm a glutton for punishment!

message 31: by Cheryl (Collier) (new)

Awww shucks. Lol. Not really, I'm just lucky and actually usually get to read at work. And I do just love reading so I read instead of watch TV like most people. It's not uncommon to see me cooking and stirring something with a book in the other hand (and it won't be a cookbook).

I am the same way Mindy! Except I always use my Kindle so if I'm cooking or folding laundry, I've always got my Kindle propped up somewhere that I haven't can easily read it! I've only read 12 books this year, so January was my best month with 7 books read, so it looks like I may match it for February (even with 3 less days!!) I've already started the 2 I need to match that! How do you read so fast?

adding is a good thing congrats

message 37: by Mindy (new)

Mindy (undertowsoul) I read a lot. I have some health challenges that keep me in bed for a few extra hours each day and I'm not much of a TV watcher. Plus, I usually get to read at least an hour at work and I read fast in general. I go through stages too so in another month or two I'll be 1 or maybe 2 a week but I've always been a big reader. I'm officially at 32 so far and starting 33 so I definitely need to up it. :) I'm debating on either 125 or 150 just to make sure I account for slower months.

Christina My goal is 75!

Ann (disciple45) Connie wrote: "I set my goal for 300 this year."

Connie, You are extraordinary! I know from YLTO!! Last year's goal was 100 and I made 104 so I went for 125 this year. I'm 11 ahead of schedule due to challenges and such but I'm waiting to see where I am in June to decide if I will up my number or not!

message 40: by Linda (new)

Linda (beaulieulinda117gmailcom) | 1403 comments Connie that is amazing, good luck. I first set my goal at 30 but IT was already at te way mark. So I upped my goal to 70 and 2 ahead of schedule.

message 41: by Mindy (new)

Mindy (undertowsoul) Those of you doing 200 & 300... Oh how I wish I could. So amazing and crazy. I love the 30 and 70 too. My sister has really bad ADD and she's read 5 books since high school 8 years ago and I'm proud of her for that. The while idea is to stretch yourself in a positive way. Way awesome to hear everyone's goals :)

message 42: by Ava Catherine (last edited Mar 01, 2013 12:45AM) (new)

Ava Catherine I have read 75 books so far this year. My goal is 300, so I am ahead of my goal, which is good. I may increase my goal this summer like I did last year.
You are correct, Mindy, that the idea is to stretch yourself each year but have time to enjoy the books, too.

message 43: by Mindy (new)

Mindy (undertowsoul) That's awesome Connie. I'm sitting at 33 and reading 34 so far for the year but I do slow down from time to time and read only a couple of books a month instead. I go through phases but I am always reading something!

message 44: by Linda (new)

Linda (beaulieulinda117gmailcom) | 1403 comments My best time for reding is the summer sitting on my deck. This year might be a littte difficult because I'm only half done the wedding favors for my son,s wedding and IT still have to make the tablecloth.

message 45: by Mindy (new)

Mindy (undertowsoul) I love reading when there are thunderstorms outside. I'll sit by the window with hot chocolate and read. That's my favorite. They can get pretty crazy since I live in a desert near a huge lake so we get these storms that are tame until they hit the lake and then they pick up everything and just dump it. Very fun though. I love rain.

message 48: by Laurie (new)

Laurie (tolepainter) | 39 comments I put myself down for 35 but have already read 18 books so far. I read whenever I get the chance, so if I read more I'm happy.

message 49: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Corley | 1298 comments I set my goal for 50 but have already read 14 so I think I should easily surpass the 50 mark!

message 50: by Rhian (new)

Rhian (rhianlovesbooksx1f4d6) i said 35, i only read at bedtime so its a fair amount, however if we get any sort of summer i may not get there, this is the uk tho so i'll probably be indoors out of the rain ha ha
